I say go to an independent shop and have them do the oil change. Or do the change yourself and have an ind. shop reset your milage on the oil changes. I can get a shop around me, Los Angeles, to do an oil change for around $100 incl parts. Or go the BMW parts counter, get the filter and oil yourself, and do the chnage on your own. Easy simple.

My point is simply that if you have any aftermarket items on the car, IMO they'll be much more likely to look for a tune. That's all.

OK, JB3 removed, BT scanned, a few 'hidden' faults but don't think anything relates to the tune, unless the one on the Stability Control Module. Any thoughts?

I would just pull the thing. How often do you go to the dealer? Once a year, optimistically? Shouldn't be too much. Why ask for trouble; just spend the 20 min to remove the tune for peace of mind? That would be me anyway...

Fully agreed and that's exactly what I did.

In the meantime, ordered the 2.0 chip from BMS which is going in this week! Can't wait to see what 2.0 feels like!

A question on clearing codes:
If you clear any codes, can't the BMW diagnostic tools/system tell that some codes have been cleared?
Does the system keep a log of any "clearings", and if it does, can't those values be brought back or reconstructed?

It seems odd that you can clear a code (not the odd part), but have no record of it, but that's of course a good thing for tuners.

My god. Why would you even risk it?

Taking 15 min to take out your JB3 every time you need an oil change is like taking an extra minute to walk to a seat towards the back of the train. Sure, the risk is minimal, but... why wouldn't you?

x2

Id be wondering whether this can be detected or not.

If i use a BT tool clear all 'fault codes' whether CEL or hidden faults, will the bimmer dealers be able to tell that theyve been deleted or no?

The consensus on this seem to be no they can't tell, the dealer diag tools can't do anything beyond looking at that same info the BT sees. There isn't a record of code clearing that the dealer can track down at their level at least.

What's less certain is what happens when the mothership gets involved in major repair situations. If the pistons in your N54 switch holes, what can BMWNA learn from the DME? There are so few accounts of these scenarios it's hard to know, which is why my 135 is staying stock.

I had the shadow codes listed above, which I cleared with the BT before my visit. Dealer did a scan and said there were no codes of any kind, so I guess they do get wiped out.
