i saw "kompressor" clearly written on the spec sheet, and since i know that with Mercedes cars kompressor means supercharged i thought it would stand the same for the BMW.

I do not speak or claim to know german so i do not know if these words also constitutes turbo-charging.

Also the power and nm figures were with an asteriks* on them unlike the other figures so that may be subject to change, but thats what it said...

Take care

"Kompressor" refers to "compressing" air; and turbos and superchargers both do that... as I understand it.

Just sleep peacefully and without worrying. I'll let you know soon enough when it'll be worthy to stay awake.

I was looking at ordering a 330xi model in the spring. Would a 335xi be available if I wait till the end of next year?

Not likely.

That will have a lot to do with where you are buying your car. The "xi" version will always trail behind the regular sedan... so my basic reply would be NO... not by the end of the year, but possibly by early 2007.

If they go 335i whole hog, I would guess the x will go with it. No doubt the current N52 will continue to be sold in non-US markets as the 330i, so I do not imagine there would be any good reason to sell a 330xi alongside the 335i. I.e., its not like the current plan to use up the remaining 3.2 inventory in the Z4M. That said, there is always the chance they may discontinue the 2 xi model strategy, thinking that most xi buyers would be satisfied with 250hp in an AWD vehicle. Lord help them if they are thinking that way on the E91 too. The 328iT will be a great car, but the 335iT would be awesome!!!

That would be a bummer for buyers in Northern climates. Hopefully they will announce what models will be getting this engine early, so I won't be waiting for nought. That could piss off a potential customer.

BMW will NOT... under any circumstances... stop the production of an AWD 3 series. You can be completely certain that there will be an "xi" version... we just don't know for sure when.

So this is going to be fun, I'm now down to three cars if 33?ci,33?i, or the SRT-8 jeep. God I hope you guys are right and they make some changes, I don't really care what they are as long as they make the car better.

Within the next several months my wife and I will be replacing her Honda Pilot with a 330i to go along with the 545 that I drive. My question is for the US market, will the 335 replace the 330 or will the 335 be in addition to the 330.

The issue is whether they will continue to offer two xi models, 328xi and 335xi, or do what they have done with the E91 so far and limit it to the 325/8. There are no obvious engineering reasons why the xi could not handle 310hp, although some might question the logic of that arrangement.

I don't really understand why there would be a delay in having xi models with the supposed new engines. It's not like they developed a totally new car and need time to put things together, which was probably why there was a delay with the 325xi/330xi.

Maybe it’s a marketing decision and not an engineering one. Just a guess.

Our answer may be in history. Does anyone remember if there was a delay in the xi models when the e46 received upgraded engines back in 2001?

I believe there was a delay. But still, the e46 platform already existed for a while at the time of the engine upgrade and they probably had to work on it more to adapt it to AWD. Now what we're seeing is only an engine upgrade across the line. The e90 platform doesn't need further work regarding the AWD, as that's already established.

well i heard that the 335i will feature a rocket engine. no. people need to keep in mind that all this is speculation and guessing until bmw releases the information or ligit documents are leaked. i have seen the photos with the turbo gauge, but for all we know they are testing all their different posibilities.
