Need Info on Exhaust Setup - Custom/Dinan

Part and Dilemma : Dinan Exhaust - The Dinan exhaust connects to part of the oem axle back, and thus requires the oem axle back be cut, and the Dinan bolted onto that 2-3 foot section of the oem axle back.

OR

I get a custom piece made that mimics the 2-3 ft of oem exhaust the with a flange to mate to the Dinan exhaust.

What sized piping is the portion below that I need made?



I prefer option 2 for a few reasons - I retain my oem exhaust, and I create a "bolt on" Dinan.

However, I question how well a random flange from an exhaust shop will fit properly to the oem, the ability for them to get the exhaust to lineup well with the fabbed pipe, the ability for them to weld a support flange at the oem location, and I question whether I can find an exhaust shop that has the 2.75" (is that the right size???) piping, and the ability to make the bends....

Is bending a 2.75" pipe (or w/e oem is) and getting it to fit perfect easy as pie for a good exhaust shop?

What do you guys suggest I do?

why not go with one of the other few vendors that offer A) cheaper exhaust with similar if not better performance, and B) a direct bolt-on replacement? What has you so dead set on the Dinan if you don't mind me asking?

Have you looked into Berk? Afe? Ark? HPF? Active Autowerke?

the need to cut on such an expensive exhaust kept me from getting it. that's just unbelievably idiotic and nitpicky

You should buy a berk street, But you have already stated that you want to go with Dinan so here goes.

I believe the stock exhaust pipe is 2.5". If you go to an exhaust shop they are probably going to spend over an hour trying to get the bends right and who knows if they even have the correct flange either. Your best bet is to find someone local (shipping would be very expensive) and buy their stock exhaust. I've seen people selling them for $100 picked up.

I have a dinan axelback currently and paired with berk mids it sounds amazing.

I went with option 1 and just chopped my stock exhaust. Stock exhausts are very cheap used and the only benefit of not chopping it would be to allow you to put it back on if you decided to sell your dinan down the road.

It sucks that you have to cut the exhaust which for many makes the job a not DIY project. This exhaust is very nice and you will be very pleased once it is on.

thanks....did you cut exactly 2.5 inches from that bend? Im worried because the "end of the bend" is kind of subjective.

nowhere in your post did you mention you already owned it, sorry for providing alternatives to your situation...

So just take it to a muffler shop and have them add some pipe and a flange that mates with the stock pipe.

Get a rotozip, it makes for cutting an exhaust very accurate and easy. I had to do this to remove the stock exhaust from my mazdaspeed3 haha.
