128i Golf Tee Mod before and after!

I recently did the famous "golf tee mod" on my 2012 128i. The engine is completely stock. I used a zip tie, and completed it in under 5 minutes! The sound to me is only really noticeable when driving and RPMs are below 3k. I would really recommend this mod to anybody in a 1 series looking for a little bit more sound from their exhaust!

Here is a before and after I recorded:

Whoa...how big is your garage? Looks much wider than a 2 car.

cool. thats weird you only hear it over 3k. The flaps were design to cover the car up until around 2.5k, then they open at 2.5k. You should be hearing a difference from 0-2.5k because the flaps are now open instead of closed xD.

When I did my golf tee mod I noticed a difference at idle.... I noticed a subtle difference but it wasn't until a few days later. I started the engine and realized I needed to get something out of my trunk or put something in (can't remember exactly) but when I got behind the car it just had this extremely deep sound. Not like you find on a V8 with straight pipes where its ungodly loud. Just a very low frequency sound wave. It so hard to describe almost like a bass tester on some really good speakers at a very low frequency. Not loud but felt like you brain was being bounced off of the walls inside your skull.

I really want to get a brand new 128i but I just paid mine off before christmas. Merry Christmas to myself. Plus its a year 1 of the 1 cant get another one of those brand new.

I guess everybody has a different hearing and noise interpretation. I did the mod and the difference in idle and up to 3000rpm's are huge. I took my daughter shopping a couple days later, and she said "I love the sound of your car, I never noticed that before". It's definitely a different sound, nice low humming at idle and some more low frequency up to about 3krpm.
Anyway, I used a zip-tie and love it.

There is a little black hose vacuum tube next to the exhaust pipes on the rear drivers side. You simply take a zip-tie and pinch it shut, so that nothing can pass through it. It's very simple! Here is the guide which will explain it all much clearer: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...light=golf+tee

Did this today with the Zip tie.

Noticed that there is a deeper rumble in the low revs. Kinda nice as i though the stock was too low. Before, with windows down I would hear the exhaust just before the wind would over power it. Now, I feel the rumble in the seat and hear it as well

I did it today then reversed it.
Waste of time!

Felt like it lost a little bottom end(would need a dyno run back to back to prove it), sound got worse(annoying bass to it and annoying bassy noise on lift off/decel, got boomy etc).

I do not recommend this mod. I'll get a MMW CSv2 or BMWP exhaust.
