Tyre diameter more than wheel & tyre width may be the main fouling issue. Standard set-up is nominally ~629mm in diameter. 235/35/19 is ~647mm and 225/35/19 will be ~640mm.
30 series tyres may be the answer, if you can get them in the right size. They'll stop your speedo from reading higher too. 235/30/19 is ~624mm and 245/30/19 is ~630mm diameter.

'Just drew up an Excel spreadsheet that automatically calculates it for me. If anyone wants a copy just PM me your email address. Note that this gives you nominal dimensions. Actual manufacturer dimensions usually differ slightly from this. They can usually provide this info for you.

wouldn't a larger tyre diameter result in a lower recorded speed on the speedo? i thought it calculates speed on number of rotations / time with the assumption of a certain diameter. but i may well be wrong.

Damn straight! My mistake. Actually, as our speedos are designed to overread (show 100kph when car's actually doing ~95), with the bigger diameter tyres it may give a more accurate measure of real speed.

ar see what your saying! and it probably would be more accurate!
did some quick calculations, the rotations/time of the tyre at 100km/h using 629mm tyres (standard ones) gives you ~103km/h if you were using 647mm tyres. and assuming it over reports by about 4km, its getting pretty close to the real speed.

Ok, new tyres are on (225/35/19), and they make all the difference. Perfect set up. Will no longer have an issue with hitting the odd pothole, or accidentally hitting a speed hump that 5kms faster. Very happy with them. I had a real chance to test them in the wet over the weekend, and they're nice and grippy. Buggerall road noise, and work well under heavy braking.

Looking forward to showing off my new wheels when we eventually have another Melbourne meet.

Cozza,

Where did you get the wheels painted?

Meanwhile, if anyone else in Melbourne is keen on a similar set up, or any other BMW replica wheels, give Matt @ MSWT a call on 9793 3244 and mention my name (Corey).

They can do these CSLs in any colour you like - they're painted and baked locally. Contrary to popular opinion, painting is better than powder coating, as the heat from powder coating can cause wheels to crack and warp, and this ain't good.

I got rid of my CSL's, I was not happy with them and wanted a freshen up after 2years...

Cozza, that offset will annoy you most when you hit bumps at freeway speeds, for example on the Tulla as you are coming up to Bulla Road, there are a series of changes in the surface of the road, and it will scrape all 4 corners... no serious damage, on mine with Yokohama 235/35/19's it caused a 1mm thin peel of the very edge of the tyres, so when you inspect the tyres later, you see this 'rubber thread' hanging off the tyre...

You will also notice that on full lock (left hand down) in reverse, the tyres scrape with the plastic 'grill' that houses the oil cooler inside the rhs front guard.

They look hot, I just wished someone or bmw released them in the proper 135i offset.

btw, I saw you on Chapel Street sometime back with them on...
