Professional Navigation & Speed Cameras

Hi guys,

Does the OEM navigation system have details / warnings about speed cameras like on a Tom Tom?

Have planned a trip to Melbourne over X'mas and would find this VERY handy if its possible.

Also, the dealer mentioned that upgrades / updates to the GPS are possible - does anyone know how?

Thanks
Stan

I doubt there would be a newer version than the one you have in the 11 model.

I have an older 08 dvd, which if anyone has a newer version i'd really to get together

Sorry Stan, as far as I know it doesn't feature speed/red light cameras - at least if it does I have never activated it!

Not sure if this will do what you want (see link). When I looked at it a few years back it wasn't compatible with the Business Nav however, I think it was worked with the Professional Nav

Would be interested in the details of those mods. I've got the 2009 model CIC pro nav.

I've seen this: http://dvdinmotion.com/ but no way I'm paying that.

Hook turns aren't too bad and actually make a lot of sense for a city like Melbourne.

I didn't realise / notice the safety cameras last time I was down there so I was very lucky not to have recieved anything in the mail.

My colleagues have warned that there are no laws in VIC that require there to be warning signs about cameras, guess I'll have to be on my best behaviour

What if your plates were stolen after the transport dept was closed for the day and you had to go on your trip without them! That would be inconvenient.......for the cameras

Do what I do, get your basic Tom Tom and make sure it is up to date from their website (for cameras etc) and run it as well as you BM setup.

This is what I was planning on doing. A lot less hassle than trying to hack the BMW Nav system.

Just get the Tom Tom app for your iPhone if you have one. Works in much the same way. I use the app and gave my Tom Tom to my father as I don't need it anymore.

Just did the drive last week. In VIC from Seymour towards Melbourne there are those average speed cameras but apparently they are turned off?

I will look at the Tom Tom app, but I'm going to guess that the cost (incl. data charges) would make me steer towards an actual unit which would probably have 'flog off' value after I'm done with it.

Or... I wonder what the Returns Policy is at JB

I have the Iphone Metroview app.... costs around $25. All maps are stored in the app so there are no data charges. They put out regular updates which include speed cameras, school zones etc.

It would be nice to have more up to date maps for the Professional system in my car though...

There's like a whole 3 of them in Melbourne.

A few more than that. Years ago I had a very annoying country Qld rep sent down to try to tell me how to do my job. My customers hated his loudmouth comments. I discovered that doing 5 hook turns on the way out of the city was the best way of keeping him quiet

I think with the Tom Tom app the maps are also stored on the phone. So no data charges once you've got it all loaded. I've used it all around Oz and it works well. At $25 Metroview sounds like a cheaper app though. Wait until one of the chain stores are selling discount itunes cards and use them. I got my last ones at KMart for 25% off.
