Windshield pit/chip "half moon"
So.. my luck right, have had the car for a couple weeks and as I was washing it 2 days ago (seems you find all the problems on your car when you wash it lol) I noticed this:
If it was ANYWHERE but in my direct FOV slightly below eye level I would not give a crap, but seeing as I'm a tad bit OCD, it has to get fixed. I went to safelite today, the technician told me it couldn't be fixed (I shouldn't have said Insurance will cover) and that they need to replace the entire windshield, obviously they get more out of a total replacement than repair and granted they'll use OEM parts and it was approved but I been reading 2 much nightmarish situations like the rain sensor being overly sensitive/not sensitive enough, wind noise, and of course leaking, and last but not least the mere thought of them damaging any trim or the installation not looking clean. Should I get a second opinion? I'd rather fix it, even if it means it will only be 75-90% better, long as they can get rid of the black mark w/ the resin I'm good.. I saw some youtube videos such as: www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4ud1OxWTYg My damage is actually half that. |

I had a tiny chip from a stone.
Safelite came to my house to repair. Now its worse. Its the tiny orginial round chip with a tiny crack attached. Looks like a sperm. Still small overall, not in my FOV, I will leave it until it gets worse. That was a few months ago and so far so good.

I had a separate person come out today, said it was fixed before (did buy the car CPO), ugh.. If it has the potential to get worse guess I'm just going to have to roll the dice with Safelife, they do guarantee their work and everything so I'll just have to make sure to tell them to do it right or they'll end up doing it again.. bet they hate people like me lol
Ordered the OEM glass from BMW w/ rain sensor and the seals, doesn't sound like a overly complicated job and the guy there supposedly has been doing it for 17 years. Thanks for the replies |

There was a thread like this not too long ago. Several people said Safelite did an ok job.

Updating this thread for anybody who finds themselves in this same position.
Safelite insisted on replacement, told me it was originally repaired and I needed a replacement. The mark could be covered with half the size of a penny. I got a 2nd opinion from an outside Windshield Repair company and they fixed it to my satisfaction, the air is out replaced with resin and you can only see a slight mark anybody but the driver that is not looking for it would never notice it. I did not want to run the associated risks with replacement, at least not for the time being. Hope this helps somebody else in the future. |

Had a tiny pit the size of 1/2 a grain of sand from a long road trip. Took it to the glass repair people and they said it was just a surface scratch and didn't need to be filled.
Yes, I found it while washing the car. |

I wouldn't want them to repair a chip directly in the middle of my FOV. Brand new Pilkington OEBMW windshield is in order for you bud.
