I chose 128 mainly because I new the never ending troubles and addictions of turbos are endless. You always want more power and more problems come with it. I'm glad 128i doesn't heave much aftermarket in the power train area. I know I have made the right choice. 56k miles so far and the only thing that has failed me is a turn signal bulb!

To the people that say they picked the 128i over the 135i because of fuel efficiency....You guys are liars. The n52 in no way is fuel efficient especially compared to the n54. The n54 puts out more power and is much more fuel efficient, by at least 3 mpg on just city driving from my experience.

for me, getting a 128i over a 135i was just purely about money. I was simply looking for a new RWD car with a manual to last me 7+ years, and be able to autox and do a few HPDEs without it costing too much. The 135i was just too much.

Me too, except for me it was ZHP instead of E46 M3 3 years ago, now 135is instead of used 1M (no, my final price on the 135is is not close to what 1Ms are selling for).

And theeeeeere it is. Everyone else is a liar, and your single point of data invalidates the entire EPA test cycle. Yes, yes. Please enlighten us all.

I bought the 135i because I came from owning a string of VW GTIs, and I wanted something that was significantly better in all performance aspects. The 135i fit the bill.

128 V 135

I ended up going with the 128 convertible. I was looking for a used car for my commute and I had the opportunity to buy either with almost identical color, package, etc... for very near the same price. It wasn't price for me.

My wife and I went for a test drive and I got to say that the 135 is simply too scary fast. The missus didn't like it at all-- and she was Ok with my other convertible, a Boxster S.

Knowing me, I think I'd step on it hard once and wrap it around a tree.

I'm happy with the 128.

I found this one on a local used car lot and I could afford it. It is my first BMW and I'm looking forward to driving it for a long time.

Because I'm cheap, my other option was a cooper s but I had a good enough year to get the car I really wanted. For 33K I got everything I will ever need in my car and I won't have to worry about turbo maintenance since I'm planning on putting 250,000 miles on my car. I know some say that turbos don't hurt the engine but you can't deny it's just one more thing that can and probably will need some work done in the cars first 250,000 miles. The HPFP problems are a prime example.

Also I was coming from a 95 civic ex (the ex means it's fast) so 230 rwd hp and a 0-60 time of 6 seconds was a fantastic upgrade.

For one, you sound like a jackass enumerating your points like you're talking to children.

For two, someone is lying when they are not telling the truth. Just because you didn't get significantly better mileage with the N52 doesn't mean they didn't buy it based on the EPA published numbers.

For three, there is no three. I just like the sound of my own voice, and I'm reading this aloud as I type. So nah.

Yup, those are pretty much the same reasons I had for buying the 128i... And I'm past the age where I need to have bragging rights.

But you don't have a 128i...so your answer is nothing more than speculation at best...

This is a great thread. I am currently considering trading "down" from my '07 manual e90 328xi sedan to a manual '10 135i m-sport.

Decisions!

And no offense to my 3-brethren, but you 1er guys make a passionate case for your car, while they claim "practicality" and "doors" as reasons they got an e90. To you, it seems, the 1er is the essence of what a BMW should be.

I'm hoping to test drive the '10 135i on Thursday.

Was actually on the market for a convertible, mainly 128i for the gas and price (duh!). But the White with red interior combo on my 135i really got me, couldnt say NO! I work at a PowerSports dealership so if gas is too bad (eventually) I'll just take out a Honda Shadow Phantom edition or something as my second vehicle (yes I love cruisers)...

For me, it was going to be my first BMW and my first manual. I wanted to shift some gears in a naturally aspirated engine instead of a turbocharged one.

For me it was the power and performance. After driving an E60 525i for 5 years, I was all about the turbos!
