Chose a 128i because I'm not a turbo fan (pun intended). I know the "new" turbo engine is a different beast from the one in my '08 335i, but I had such a bad experience with that car that I almost swore off BMWs forever. Almost.

Residual feelings about shifter feel, steering and ergonomics -- after owning 7 other BMWs -- got the better of me. I missed my two roundie 2002's, my 325ix (living in snow country at the time), 740i sport and 6MT 530i. (Didn't miss the X5 or the 335i so much).

So this car is mostly "back to basics". 128i with M-Sport. Planning to upgrade the suspension. Wheels and tires. Short Shift. Done.

I just noticed in the pictures that mine has the little panels in front of the headlights for what I assume are headlights washers. Would this denote that it has the cold weather package or are headlight washers standard? I can't see any buttons for heated seats although I'm not sure exactly where those buttons would be.

I chose the 128i over the 135i for the following reasons:

1. Normally aspirated
2. Last true I-6?
3. Hydraulic over electric...
4. Reminds me of the iconic 2002 tii
5. I ordered the car exactly like I wanted it. Sport seats was the only option. Driving in its (BMW's) purest form, similar to a 2002 tii...
6. I wanted a 128i; never even considered the 135i
7. I also own an X3 35i MSport, so I already own a turbocharged BMW, for you snobs who want to break balls.

Cheers/BB

Huh? The N52 is NA. Claiming to drive an "M2 Turbo Coupe," like you do in your profile, does mean zero, however.

Right. They're the same. It means zero. Unless -- to you -- it doesn't.

I too am still trying to figure out what some of the various option packages are. Like I know mine doesn't have nav, but it does have the M sport package, a sunroof, and the USB connection... so not sure what packages those are from or if everything but the M sport was standard on the 135.

Only thing that I'm still debating on is adding an extended warranty since the car is already out of the factory warranty.
I am curious why you sold your FRS? I had been planning on getting a BRZ before deciding to go with the 128.

Also, Motor Trend's site had a pretty good run down of what comes with all the packages. For example, here is the page for the 2011 128 I bought: http://www.motortrend.com/cars/2011/...kages_options/

My car came with the Premium Package, Convenience Package, Sport Package, moonroof, USB/iPod connection, AT, and Sport Steering wheel with Paddle Shifters.

I would have preferred the M-Sport package, but the only real differences, I think, are that the M came with the aerodynamic kit and M-logos. Even the steering wheels seem mostly the same, with the M being all black.

The FRS was a fun car for sure, but it just seemed a little too stripped down to me. The interior finish is very cheap (which was not unexpected given the price of the car). I also felt it needed a bit more power from the factory. Having come from the S2000 world the FRS just wasn't quite what I was looking for. I'm hoping the 135 can appease my "small car with lots of power" cravings.

I'll check out the site for the packages... Maybe I can figure out exactly what mine has.

What is the sure way to tell if it is the "M Sport" vs just "Sport"? Mine has the M steering wheel and shifter and has 5-star wheels in a very standard look.

I choose the 128i bc it is a daily car for me and i need to save on gas mileage if im going to drive it everyday and everywhere. Also because of speed limit, i tend to have a lead foot.

I picked my 128i because the price was right and it had most of the options I wanted. I'll be less tempted to mod this car than a 135i and it should make for a great reliable DD for a while. I've had it a week and absolutely love it. I've still got an E36 M3 track car to get my speed thrills.

The experience of driving a friends e36 years ago led me to the 128i. And after taking my 128i on the track, I know it will be many, many track days before I'm able to push it to it's limit, but now I'm thinking you have the best setup, have a 128i as a daily driver and a e36 track machine.

Over time, I've liked the 128i more and more, i'm less willing to beat it up.

I chose a 128i because I didn't want to overspend. Turns out I had nothing to worry about.

Looking back now, I'm glad I didn't get the N54 135i and the possible HPFP problems.

The 128i was until last week my absolute favorite car to drive. It took 4 years for me to find a car I liked more, so that's impressive. That was until I drove a Tesla Model S Performance. I really like the electric (I'm a nerd so it's fitting).

You will not be disappointed with either. If you can afford it go for the 135i.

Not sure if this was the same in 2011, but from looking at BMW's site right now the difference is that the interior A-pillar trim changes from the regular interior color to black if it is M Sport. On the car I'm buying it has the shadowline exterior trim but not the black A-pillar trim on the inside... so not sure still but thinking it may just be regular "sport".

Yeah, the anthracite headliner is part of the M-Sport package, on both the 128i & 135i. One of the things I wish I had on my Sport Package-equipped 128i.

There's no distinction between a turbo and NA engine? Seriously?

Some people just don't like change. I remember when people were complaining about all the manufacturers moving away from carborated engines to fuel injection. All the manufacturers see the writing on the wall. Forced induction is the future. Smaller, lighter, more efficient, less emmissions and better performance per liter. I for one am very happy that the manufacurers have the technology to make these new engines. I am old enough to remember all the performance muscle cars of the early 70's. After the gas crunch and all the emmison crap we wound up with cars like the Pinto, Chevette, Escort, Horizon, Gremlin and Mustang II.
