Car is "bucking"!
I've noticed for a while now when I come to a complete stop, and let off the brake to go forward the car lunges or bucks forward as if the transmission is stuck or the brakes are letting go from the rotor. Today we are getting a lot of rain and it seems to be doing it every time I come to a complete stop. I called my service advisor on it a few months ago and have not gotten a call back. Go figure...any help out there?
Thanks, -todd |

By what you're discribing I think I've experienced the same thing. I think when it happens its shortly after I've started the car... maybe only after using the brakes once or twice.... and coming to a complete stop.

I think you should be able to look this up on e90 post. Its a common problem with ATs that you "deal" with. Which is a crock of shit if you ask me. I drive my car in M mode most of the time so I dont experience this. It only happens when I am in regular drive.

Yes it is an automatic. I figured it was a "BMW" thing as I have experienced the similar thing in my daughters 325. It sometimes feels like the brakes are still compressed on the capiler and letting loose upon slight acceleration it jumps. I have decided to live with it amongst other strange things the car does? I have 35,000 miles and it has done it randomly the 1 year 6 months of ownership. Thanks for the feedback. I'm learning to love the beast as this is my first BMW. I come from many years of Lexus loyalty.

it's very common and happened regularly on my 335i when I had it...it has do with the BMW Brake Assist System here's a link to another thread discussing it
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=136178 from what I remember there might be a software update to help alleviate the issue. |

Happens to me all the time and a buddy in CA has the same issue. That's a "feature." My dealership told me that this was an issue with the 5s and they issued a software fix for it. I figure if enough of us complain, they might do something about it.
Drive in S or just click your paddles down to M1 while in D, take off from the stop, and let the trans go back to D mode on its own. The lurch goes away once the car's warmed up. I think it's inexcusable, personally, and needs to be addressed, but bitching at my dealer didn't get me anywhere.

SAME ISSUE - Fixed
Guys -- I turned my BMW over for service with a whole list of problems (and this was one of them.) Feels like the car "bangs" into gear about a quarter second after letting off the brake.
I told my SA about it, he was aware of an issue, and the problem was resoved with a transmision-program-update. |

I've complained about this twice and have been told that the 1-series does not have a software upgrade to fix this yet. If your SA/Dealership DOES fix this, please let us know!! Then I can rag on my SA to get it done.

yes, should have got a manual... but I too have an automatic.
and it's hard to replicate, for it doesn't always happen. when: warm or cold + prolonged stop + gas after light turns green = slight or major neutral drop like feeling. |

Official Fix from BMW
I just spoke with my SA at the dealership. BMW has issued an official software fix for the AT buck. If you've got the issue give your dealer a call and get it fixed. I'll report back after I get the work done.

Software Fix
I got the software flash yesterday at the dealership. It took about 4.5 hours, but it has totally fixed the problem.
Can't tell if there were any other changes to the feel of the car. It's been snowing and the roads are too nasty to do any aggressive driving.

have had the same problem and i have addressed it twice so far with my SA and he thinks that i am a young ignorant kid and he's trying to tell me it has to do with the electronic braking system....the brakes are making my car buck forward interesting? asked for a transmission re-flash he said there was no codes and myself and the techs could not get it to act up....We all know what happens when i drive it home from the dealership 10 minutes later bahhh!!! Any idea of how i can get it to act up or how them to get to do the re-flash?

If it's only happening when you first get rolling with the car, I'd suggest leaving the car with them so it can totally cool down to outside temp. Have them drive it first thing in the a.m. when it's coldest. If you can, go with the tech/SA on the drive so that you can tell him when it's doing what it's doing. Or have you drive it and they can listen/feel. My dealer has been absolutely accommodating for me with these kind of things. They often send me out with the technician (who drives varies) and I've never had my SA treat me the way some people on this board get treated when they bring up a problem. I don't know how dedicated you are to this dealer, or if you generally get treated well there or what... but if you're not happy you could consider taking the car somewhere else for an opinion.

I dropped my car off at 8am in the morning and told them to call me and let me know what was going on because I would need my car to get to work the following day....Not one call all day so I finally call around their closing time and they tell me they want to keep it over night to do what you suggested and they did. i was at school so I could not be there but they said nothing happened. I'm going to try a different dealership next Tuesday. Thanks for the reply and advice!

anyone have any recommendations on what to tell the SA? somehow I don't think they'll take me seriously if i just say it feels like it's letting off the brakes. my wife notices it in the passenger seat too... |
