$70 DIY Bluetooth Install

I really love my 128i but could not stand not having Bluetooth in a modern car. It wasn't on the car when I got it so after many searches I did this.

Things You Need
  1. http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Bluetoo...pr_product_top
  2. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  3. http://www.amazon.com/Cigarette-Ligh.../dp/1389501930
  • Solder Gun
  • Solder
  • 10mm socket
  • Torx Driver with T-20 Bit
  • Electric Tape
  • Wire to run new 12v and ground from Accessory plug

Must Read these great DIY
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=213833
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...2&postcount=29

Here is what I did
Remove the Shifter Cover and Ring to expose the Cigarette lighter Connector. You will need to access it. I removed a small amount of the wire cover and soldered by ground and 12v and ground from here.

*Yes I know I spelled Accessory wrong*
Tunnels the Extension to the Aux as seen here. I also Drilled a small section in the plastic cover as seen to make sure the cable sat nicely.

Ran both wires and aux extension up the pillar and into dome lighting area. Be careful not to run the air over the airbag.

Finally connected everything up there. There was plenty of room to cut the 12V extension female portion to be a new socket that hides on top of the headliner.

I must say, the audio is excellent. Pandora sounds very good as well. And I have no interference. People have no issues hearing me. I really wanted to hide the install, but also place the mic in a better position to help clarity.
  • With the push button I can
  • Answer a call
  • End a call
  • Fast forward and pause music
  • Use Siri

When I am listening to music, it will automatically lower and mute, and resume when and after I get a call. Only limitation is that you have to obviously be in Aux Radio mode for this to all work.

Hope this helps,

I did the same! Excellent product I must add. I used to get them at cost before bestbuy discontinued carrying this product - shame.

When you are in AUX mode and you have music playing from your iPhone it will stop the music and play your ring tone, you just press the belkin adapter and it will pick up the call on your sounds system. The belkin adapter has a microphone built in.

PS. OP - I'm not too sure if you are supposed to wrap the airbags in tape.. probably not a good idea

Definitely not a good idea! Nor should the wire be run against the airbag; it may interfere with deployment. The wire should be run behind the bag, and fastened to any existing wire bundle if possible.

Something like this:

I'm glad you guys noticed that. There are airbags in the A-pillars, and right now, if you get into an accident and those deploy, you'll have that wiring flying at your face at over 100mph. I would adjust your installation process, because that is not safe.

That is the plug I use to charge my iphone. It has nothing to do with the other Belkin product.

So you cut the wire from plug and connected wires straight to 12v wires?

or you can spend $8.50 and buy one of these for your bt audio and not have to rip your car apart. http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...php?p=13588481

Do you have the aux mini jack? If so you can use a usb/cigarette adapter to power the blutooth dongle.
