Might want to check out progress with the DCT boxes on other fora. Up to 1000whp daily driveable and now launchable with adjustable launch control. 90ms shifts too!!!

Well aware of all the options on the market. If I were to move away from a built Auto of some kind it would be a sequential where the power and torque holding capacity is well proven behind many high hp street and race cars. Not convinced the DCT would be any real world improvement over the Nizpro...especially given US power figures are way out compared with Oz dynos. The HP26/28 swap is of more interest (this idea has been around for years and never implemented by Nizpro or Pete at Advan long before that) but for now I am done with enough pioneering to go chasing rainbows with another stock based box.

If I wanted to run 9's in my 135 it wouldn't be with a DCT. A race prepared powerglide or Turbo 400 would be a better bet. And if I cared about drag times I really wouldn't choose my BMW. I would build a light, dedicated drag car.
If I wanted to track my car, a Samsonas would be my choice. Again over a stock based BMW DCT or manual. And if I really cared about that I wouldn't choose my BMW either. I would build a light, 4WD, dedicated track car. Now, if my car came with the DCT from new it would have long been rebuilt with Dodson clutches and I would have been happily choofing along with that come what may. But it didn't. It came with an auto (which I like) and strangely enough has held the most power thrown at it at during any given time in its life. All from one week old. Ten years of abuse with the original box now. So at 465rwkw its done OK and we will see how far I can push that shortly. If you don't got a DCT, then a conversion with clutches is prohibitive compared with a manual swap and a long way towards a proper sequential conversion should that tickle anyone's fancy. Either choice is a sure bet to hold more power and a preference long before DCT, for me anyway. Perhaps one day DCT will prove it's long term ability to hold power, and locally, not just scant information from afar, and over time at an affordable cost...not just some guy ran a 9 sec pass so the 'second coming' is here. Or 1000hp which is really, maybe 800hp or less anywhere outside the USA. Don't get me wrong, I admire your enthusiasm in your threads elsewhere, hopefully spruiking the DCT potential, but right now its not the be all, end all solution it might end up being...time will tell and I am happy to be proven wrong by people who actually do it or have done it. For now, I will happily stick to choofing along in my auto at a decent clip. Its not a race car or a drag car, just a bloody fast street car and I am happy with that. And if you've got more to say about DCT, start another thread as there will no doubt be more interesting info along the way.

Yep...checked to see if a 4inch exhaust fits.
And we should be able to squeeze 4inch in too.

There is a lot to like about a modern, relatively small, luxury performance road car like the 135i, especially one capable of producing over 460kW at the wheels! Swapping from the GTX3584RS to a Gen 2 GTX3076, or even the 3071, should result in outstanding response without losing a huge chunk of top end power. A friend had his RB25DET Neo Gen 2 GTX3071 combination tuned just before Xmas where it managed a very respectable and responsive 391kW at the wheels running E85 at 23psi. My daily driver RS Megane is almost the polar opposite of my R33. The Megane has a modest 170kW at the front wheels but at a touch over 1300kg and with exceptional grip it's very easy to extract 9-10/10ths - upgraded brakes and semi-slicks help. The R33 on the other hand, it is a very different story. It's still a road car and is equipped with most of the creature comforts. But it's loud, aggressive and a bit of a handful if not treated with respect. |

Looks very impressive and should be reasonably easy to R&R with those V-bands. Looking forward to seeing dyno results with the 4" exhaust.
My new set-up (stronger bottom end to enable 35+psi from my GTX3584RS 1.01) is complete and should be ready for the dyno in a week or so - need to do 100-150klms and a few heat cycles. Last edited by whatsisname; 05-28-2018 at 01:45 AM.. |

Look forward to your dyno numbers Matt. :-)
Your car is looking great! My built engine is a way off yet, waiting for rods but have everything else. For now, stuck with the standard donk hoping it survives the next dyno session.

The new version is being screwed on this week. Back to a 1.01 housing initially.

Back to some testing today on the dyno at Advan Performance in Auburn.
Over boosting run below at 5100rpm ahead of some consistent runs with the old tune. Thanks must go to; JDTuning martymil - excellent tuning of the JB4 Advan Performance Luke our Fabricator - has performed a minor miracle in fitting everything. David Trebila .

Dyno graph below shows consistent 482rwkw at 30psi over old high run before the final kit updates.
This is run is 'as you brung it' with the old tune but a 1.01 housing vs the 0.83 Old lines in Red, New in Blue. Solid lines Torque, Dotted lines Power. Semi slicks 160 ramp rate instead of 200 as cant get traction Tightly strapped Single barrel shotgun is maxed out as is the PI. Now for the next changes as there is plenty left if brave enough to risk grenading this stock motor and stock auto. .
