New e90: to wax or not when new, or how long before?

I'm sure it's somewhere here in the forums, but can't find. Have a new e90 330 on the way and wondering what people think as to if it should be waxed right away. Some are telling me that the paint should have adequate cure time (6 months or more) before waxing, and might be damaged if done before. Your thoughts? TIA

Isn't it cured at the factory? I think that time period is only for a repaint. I Zainoed my car about a week after delivery.

Yup, factory paint is baked and cured at the factory. You can wax it as soon as you get it.

Waxing is always no problem. If you have reservations you might want to wait a coupla months before you buff/polish...

This is becoming one of those urban legends...

Wax the car as soon as you get it. In fact, as part of the dealer prep they wax the car. Pickup the car on Thursday; dawned, clayed and polished on Saturday; 3 coats of Zanio on Sunday.. Still looking good after 5 months in a Buffalo winter..

I surprised you didn't find this somewhere on the forum. I remember at least 2 threads about this in the past

I agree with you...but the OP had doubts...so if it makes him feel better he might want to wait a little before compound buffing/polish...personal preference...

Actually, that's incorrect. Buffing and polishing fresh paint will not damage the paint job (assuming the polishes used are bodyshop safe - ie have no wax in them). Body shops polish fresh paint jobs as part of the repainting process.

The reason why waxing is not good on non-cured paint is because it will not allow the solvents to dissipate from the fresh paint, thus creating problems.
