Ever want a 1'r 3 door hatchback?

I always wanted the 1 series 3 door hatchback....wish they marketed them state side....I don't prefer the Audi and since I do a lot of cycling racing it kind of makes better sense

Just rambling.....

Trade it for a heartbeat for the 5 door hatch. 70lbs lighter and more torsionally rigid while effectively doubling the cargo space? Absolutely.

Coupes are stupid.

100% agree'd with thest|g. If they made the hatch here I'm sure it would've outsold the coupes. plus i think the hatch is a lot less fugly and weird looking than the coupe.

fugly? can't believe you own a coupe and think it's fugly.....I think it's one of THE best looking coupes on the road today.....

I like the hatchback....but it doesn't appeal to me the way the coupe does; which has very classic coupe lines.

Yeah, that's because he plastidipped it to matte blue with red accents (IIRC).

E82's look very nice. Everyone, who has seen ours, is saying how cute it looks especially in our Deep Sea Blue/Oyster combo. And I love it, too.

I prefer the F20 to the old hatch.

The only red accent i had was the lip on my wheels for your information. I just don't think the 1er coupe is a shockingly good looking car. I like it, but 90% of people tell me they don't like it and think it's completely misproportioned and pig bellied. Ofcourse we like it, we own the damn things.

edit: this is talking about a bone stock completely unmodified car. Modified with OEM performance parts i think they looks amazing. the perf side skirts really change the pig belly look imo.

DSB = the best!

i have no idea how people can own a car they think is 'fugly'...i'd never buy a car i thought was fugly. life's too short to drive something you don't appreciate.

I own it because it's fun to drive, I don't care what it looks like when i'm in the drivers seat . But like i said, STOCK its fugly, i love how mine sits now. It must be said i'm imaging non msport 128 bumpers which are just god awful.

I like hatches but not crazy about the 1-er, the rear tails just look really bland IMO. I think the GTI / Golf R look better.

E81, sure. I just can't get over the headlights on the F20, however.

Coupe all the way. Looks squat and muscular like a pit bull, matching its personality. I also don't get those who would fork over good money for a car that they think is ugly. It's not the only thing that matters but its a factor I can't overlook. Don't recall, what are the handling capabilities of the hatch compared to the coupe?

Seems most 128 drivers would trade their rides in for the hatch in a minute and most 135i owners wouldn't, in this thread anyway. Very interesting.

The coupe's look A LOT better than the hatches.. imo, I just can't stand the rear end of the e81/87, way too bland.. sort of looks naked
Over here in Australia you see a ton more hatchback 1ers than coupes, if I wanted a hatch I'd take the new f20, looks much much better than the old hatch

That is what i have heard about Europe.....so many hatches. I am looking at it more from a functionality stand point then all ascetics. I wonder how I can legally get one stateside and registered....

It's the same car that is better in every way aside from potentially looks, which are subjective. I don't find the 1 series to be particularly attractive from any position other than behind the wheel. Hatch can also look pretty good when appropriately modded.

I suppose if you want to read into the owner divide you could say 135i owners on average want to be seen(where looks are important), where their 128i counterparts want a good car(everything else).

Buy 4 in the engine/trans spec you want, crash 3 for the Feds.

I think that might be the most obnoxious, insulting, and deliberately inflammatory thing I've ever read on these forum.

You cannot possibly be suggesting that the people who paid extra for the ENGINE are only interested in looks.

Therefore you must be once again pedalling your "the 3.0L Inline 6 is the best engine the world has ever seen" line again...

That or just trolling for the sake of trolling?

Seems I cannot get through more than a few threads these days without seeing a post from you snidely bashing the 135i...

We get it. You like the 128i... Move on.

Of course I'm screwing around, Bav54 is just amusing to get going. After all, he is the one who pointed out the divide.

Also, never have I said the N52 is the best engine ever made.

OK.. I can accept that...

I'm fine with people criticising the cars... the engines... the looks... etc.

All of that is subjective.

The only reason I even chimed in is because insulting the cars is one thing. Insulting the drivers is something else...

Feel free to go about your business...
