Strange Box on top of Battery

The photo below is what I think, is the key fob adapter for charging up the original fob. ......
it has two slots that will take the fob.... pretty tight, but it does click in!
This adapter is the larger red unit approx 150 x 200x 25mm.

Any info on this set-up would be greatly appreciated. It is in the trunk of a E87 120i hatchback MY09

David, the grey unit is obviously the battery, with one terminal to earth and the other through a small red box is the positive terminal.
Using knowledge of the approx size of the battery, you will see another red box (approx 150mm x 200mm x 25mm)..... this is the box in question.
It has two red leads (one large and one small) supplying 12 volts to the car.
There are two slots on the right hand side of photo in the red box, that I believe could take a key fob?

Any help would be appreciated. Note~ the smaller red box is for a shut off switch or fuse (I think!)

if you look into those slots you will see a wire terminal. Those slots are simply empty plugs for various wiring options. The big part covered in red is actually a big multi fuse. Bmw did a recal on some of the 3 series a year or so ago because of a bad battery connection and while they were doing my 328i they actually popped one of the main fuses on mine and it took the technician 2 days to find the issue..

Please note dimensions of red box are approx 200mm X 15mm X 25mm, not 2.5mm as first mentioned.

Thanks David, I believe you are correct. So its just a Power distribution block. Another forums advised that it is Part #61146971370.
I still need to know if it has extra fuses or any coding electronics in it, required when replacing battery.
RegardZ

Note (15/Jan 2015),,,, It appears it has extra fuses, no electronics! (to be confirmed).
If you Google the above part #, it gives a fuW details.

Thanks all for participating.
