I'd like to acquaint you with a concept you seem unaware of, it's called the Press Launch. All of the automotive mags write about the same cars inthe same month because they all went to the same launches. The US mags aren't the only ones guilty of this - Car, Evo and Top Gear do the same. In fact, you often can suss out comments about other mag's writers in some reviews if something unusual happens and you read more than one. Car's writer made a reference to someone from Total BMW (iirc) getting arrested during the Z4 M Roadster press launch (caught doing over 100mph in Tennessee). And I'd say we'll see some mention of Bovingdon's antics with the new Ferrari FF in other mags as well (finally, Colin Goodwin's off the hook!).

Since they all get access to the cars at the same time and no one wants to be beat to press about the latest, yes, you get the same car on all the magazine covers the same month, with the weeklies beating the monthlies to the punch.

You're entitled to your (imo) flawed view of journalistic integrity, but your example of such corruption is a poor one.

Effectively what we’re talking about is a machine that’s quicker than an M3 in most real world conditions, more rewarding when you want it to be, and not a whole lot less roomy into the bargain. The basic specification is also more than good enough, the interior a tad plain in feel perhaps, but then that’s partly what this car is all about.

Totally agree mine feels quicker than the M3 I owned. I think its one of the best cars I have owned and that includes models from Aston, Porsche and Mercedes Next week Autocar compare the 1M against the Cayman R.

Make no mistake the 1 Series M Coupe is worthy of its prestigious badge. It returns BMW’s performance division to its roots by appealing to a more youthful audience while its compact dimensions and immersive driving experience are reminiscent of the original E30 M3. The only real departure is the grunty rather than revvy nature of its engine. But with turbo power being the future for M that’s the way it’s going to be from now on. And based on how the 1 Series M Coupe performs – that’s no bad thing.
