I'd be happy not being forced to buy a moonroof.

So to reiterate, top 3 qualities of a CF room, in order of importance: 1. Lower center of gravity 2. Lower weight 3. Visual appeal I think not having an option at least for a CF roof is a letdown. Every other ///M coupe has it (M3 + M6)

If BMW was serious about this model it would be called "M1" and have CF as an option. This is more of a one-off "M coupe" model meant to squeeze more sales out of the current design.. not a standard M model that you'll see every year. We should appreciate it for what it is.

I'm sure the engineers wanted to, but understandably some of the blingy high-end accessories from the M3 weren't going to make it to the 1M. Left on the cutting room floor by the bean counters so to speak, in the interest of keeping the cost down.
I'd just be happy they killed the sunroof as well. |

Ha- sounds like BMW's marketing machine has worked too well.
I don't believe a CF roof is good bang-for-the-buck on a car in this weight and price bracket. There are simply too many better places to spend the same money that would give more return on the investment (lighter wheels and brakes, weight off the nose, etc). There is a reason (other than the BMW's rather high CG) that none of BMWs competitors spec carbon roofs- they have run the numbers and found the money better spent elsewhere. Would a carbon roof be nice to have? Sure. But it is at least as much "bling" as it is functional, and I certainly won't fault BMW for limiting costs and putting function first. This from someone who added a carbon roof to their own car.
