Like many have mentioned there is no comparison between the Solstice and 135i. Even if the Solstice gets 300hp it is not he same 300hp that BMW advertises. I know for a fact that if an American car advertises 300hp my 135i will smoke it easily and the 135i is a fairly heave car for its size. Now consider the all around quality of the 135i and my vote goes to the 135i. If you were going to compare a Solstice to a BMW product you would be better off looking at the Z4 3.0i. You can get a new one way below MSRP. IMO there is no comparison between a solstice and any BMW product so: Come on, get a 1:roundel:

Any idea if the new Solstice coupe has any more interior space than the roadster? I went to a Pontiac dealers to check out a Solstice to see if I would be comfortable inside because of my height. The SA looked at me and just shook his head "no." He said that no way was I going to fit. He was right and I'm only 6"3"

Mazdaspeed Mazda Miata..
Pontiac is getting better @ small cars, but 135 would be my pick these round. More prestege, better pedigree, 3.0TT engine that won awards, Luxury interior, etc.. Quote:

GM should be sued for the front grill alone. Just like all GM cars, just a rip off of another designer. Go look at the new G6, wow how original, it even sports the new M3's side grill on the fenders. What a joke that is!

Every thing points to the gpx using the 2.0L turbocharged Ecotec engine with 260 hp not 300 hp. Motor Trend did a article saying that they were toying with the idea of 300 hp on the same 2.0L Ecotec engine(same one they are talking about for the camaro). I doubt that it will happen next year ,and I would be concerned about the long term reliability if it did.
I test drove a Saturn sky redline ( same platform same engine). The saleswomen was getting nervous so I could not push it too hard. Here are my thoughts: Engine - fast , but slower than a 135. The peak power is higher so you have to drive it hard to get the power out of it. It was a little under powered at lower rev. the turbo lag was not bad but it is there. Adding the extra hp on this engine could add lag and make it so you need to be more precise of a drive to get the power out of it. Also It needs a 6mt not a 5 Handling- less than the s2000, mita, and 135. Fun but did not feel like a sports car. This would of been the 1st place to start modding Looks - Off the hook !! Sky and the GPX are down right sexy Quality- cheap and plasticy interior . The car got a 2 out of 5 from JD powers on quality. This mean expect problems Space - there was none . It my be better in the coup. Value - at a base of $30,000 + I don’t see the value:iono:. Nice car but not for the price point.

The GXP should be a good car for it's price a tad heavy for what it is IMO. It's closest competition would be the 350/370z and Z4. While I love the new coupe styling I'd have to vote 135. Should be faster, hold resale better and is more functional (4 seats vs 2 seats).

I think it all depends on what you want in a car.
If you want a nice, fun, daily driver then there is not a comparison. 135i wins hands down over the Pontiac. If you want something you can use as a track whore then I think that the Pontiac might win with the pricing you can get on them. For me spending the $35,000 for the 135i is a bit much for a car that I am going to turn into a track car. The base GXP $29,000 is much easier on the pocket book at least for me:iono: Truth be told though, if it was a track car I wanted I would not go for the Pontiac but instead opt for the S2000. I am biased here but for fun factor, track ability, fun factor, and priced under $35,000 new the S2000 wins hands down IMO.

I might suggest waiting for the next generation Z4 or whatever they decide to call it. It might have a folding hard top according to some reports and my guess is it will get the same 3 liter turbo engine as the 135i. It will probably be >$5k in price over the 135i and might be out of your price range though. Just something you might want to consider.

I will give GM their props...out of all the American car company's they are about the only one that even has cars within a thought of me liking. The other American manufacturers should take note and follow suit.
Corvette G8 GT Cobalt SS Solstice even the Malibu ...not quite as good as the Bavarians but waaay ahead of the Dodges and Fords of America... |

After they became Pontiac (they were Oakland prior) I believe it was late '20s early '30s. The odd thing is BMW re-used the kidney grille on the 303 after a coachbuilder had used a kidney grille on a Dixi based chassis. I think there's a thread floating around on that - let me check . . .

That dovetails nicely with my previous post mega.
You see the name 'Karosserie' at the bottom of the data sheet? It's 'Ihle' - BMW didn't build that body, Ihle did. The first BMW with the twin-kidneys was model 303 in 1933. Pontiac was using a vertical separator on it's grilles in '31 (http://www.pbase.com/xl1ken/image/58366006) possibly earlier. |

they do look close, not rounded on the bottom of the pontiac back then though
the grill issue comes up often on forums, lotta hate because pontiac seems to copy bmw in terms of market, and design, the new g8 moved away though |

bmw was in 1930, look at the picture I posted, back then it was common to have different companies make the body work, i remember reading about how much bmw's owners liked that body that they continued that grill design on later cars
there's a distinct difference too, bmw's are rounded top and bottom, the pontiac design clearly is not, they look quite a bit different |
