Can a small dealership get an allocation?

Hi,

I called all the dealerships in PA, there are 2 small dealership said they have allocation for me... And both said I am the first one.

Both want MSRP price and $5000 deposit.

If I put down the deposit, how do I find out if the dealership really getting an allocation?

I dont want to put down the deposit and in Nov 2011. They tell me they cant get one.

Any advise?

Apparently every dealer is getting at least one according to what someone posted earlier.

on the same buyers order where they write down 5000.00 non-refundable deposit ( if that is what they want) have them also include "dealer guarantees allocation of vehicle" ???

5 k seems steep for a deposit, even if they want to keep away the rif raf place holders.. but its not unheard of..

Every Franchise MUST be offered 1 allocation in order not to have a legal issue with regards to franchise agreements.. Its up to the dealer if they take it or not..( or trade it to another dealer for that matter) everything after the first is based upon sales volume.

Is this true?

Is it a FACT or a RUMOR?

I was told be a small dealer last Friday that every dealer gets at least one. Whether his statement is fact or not remains to be seen, but it is a fact that he said it.

I would not put down $5k unless:

1. I personally knew the dealership owner or manager

2. It is refundable.

There is a reason most people refer to these people as 'stealers'.

I realize that you are looking for confirmation from a third party. but it is fact.. Like i said, there is NO way to know what the dealer does with his allocation.. he could literally "give" it away.. like i said 5K is a little high.. but thats just me.

for instance a dealer in colorado that sells 85% x3 and x5 and all wheel drive vehicles gets only so many x-cars ( its not unlimited) per year... If he is given 1 1M, and he feels he could make more money on 2 x5's... he could trade that 1M allocation for 2 future x5 allocations from lets say a dealer in Cali... It is called "trade bait" the colorado dealer never even sees the car (in this case the 1M) it is transfered to the Cali dealer electronically.. no money exchanges hand.. just paperwork for future cars..

It's refundable IF they don't have a 1M to deliver... but why people called it 'stealers'???

I had a dealer try to keep a deposit on me once. I got the manager on the phone and he credited the money back to my CC. What I didn't know is that the CA also refunded me my deposit despite telling me they were keeping it. Serves them right.

Refundable is great... just have the sales manager show you the "order" in BMWs order bank with your name on it. after that there is nothing tmore that you can do until it gets produced..

but why people called it 'stealers'? <<<<< to answer you question, although it always erked me also.. There are those that feel that dealerships a.k.a stealerships charge too much, try to rip you off, labor rate too high etc etc etc, and to those people i say work in one for a while and see what really happens behind the scenes then let me know if you feel the same way afterwards. Of course...there are exceptions to every rule, like everything else in life.

Happened to me too.. scare tactic to make you re consider you canceling..Nissan Dealer.

Leave deposits on CC's ... then call and dispute if it ever happens to anyone.. 100% refundable unless it specifically states non-refundable.. usually due to some custome order of color or something i.e. a pink M3 for instance !!!

Thank you for the advise.

Can anyone explains me how BMWs order bank works?

I would make sure that price is agreed upon beforehand so you don't get screwed over on them wanting 5k over msrp. Second, make sure that your deposit is refundable in case they do try to sell the 1M.

I for one got mine from a smaller dealer (they only got one, mine). You shouldn't have any problems. Just make sure to do what I said above and you should be ok.

If you don't mind me asking what dealer(s)?

Terrible idea to put down a non-refundable deposit. Even worse to have "non refundable" in writing. Any decent dealer will let you just put down a deposit and refund it if something changes.

Do you not see what it says right under it? Says non refundable once car is allocated. Which means before that it is refundable. So when he builds the car and it is put into production it can't be refunded.

I do too, but actually fair .. it states dep non-refundable once allocated, which means he would be guaranteed a car as best as can be..

I bet dealer wanted that because it was an orange car... if after allocation and in production it cant be easily changed etc etc etc..

Fail deal if you ask me... Gets the OP the sense of security he wanted...

BTW,,,who the hell taught the salesperson to write...a freakin' monkey
