I use the Goodyear GS-D3 as my autoX tire, and I think that the others would probably provide more grip. If you will have to deal with rain though, the goodyear is very good in the wet and may be more hydroplane-resistant than the others.
If you compare the goodyear to something like the Dunlop star spec, you will see the dunlop has much more rubber touching the road. The large grooves in the goodyear that are good for water evacuation reduve the amount of rubber on the road. That said, the goodyears are still a very competent tire, just not the best for track use.

I have Goodyear F1 DS3s on my e36 and e30 M3. Great tires. Long life, very capabile and grippy in the dry and also great for wet weather.
As background, I run Toyo R comps on the track and have used all imaginable brands of tires over the years, and I can say these Goodyears are very good street tires with good grip. They are my favorite street tire so far. Plus they are quiet too. |

I've had PS2 and Goodyear F1s as my last two sets of tires and the PS2s are simply amazing. I'm a track day instructor and I normally use some sort of R compound on the track but I have destroyed many a street tires on the track from time to time. The PS2 just wear with no chunking and no issues with sidewall bubbling like the F1. They stick like glue, ware like Iron, ride great and are quiet. As an all around performance street tire I don't think they can be beat. The DUNLOPs are stickier but will also ware out twice as fast. well that's just my opinion and personal experience

I just got Sumitomo HTR Z III's put on at the Tire Rack.
225 in the front and 255 in the rear on my stock 18' wheels. All four and out the door for less than $700....great performance so far in dry and wet--significant upgrade over the crummy stock run flats. I really like them so far... Biggest difference I have noticed to this point is with starting and stopping--the tires just GRIP so well--it is much harder to lose traction in first and second (with JB3)....and my stopping feels firmer and more controlled. Less than a thousand miles on em, but really like them so far.

There is a new Nitto NT05 that should be considered.
We'll be driving to Bimmerfest on Saturday on them. My driver Ralph Warren tried a set on his e46 M3 Rogue wagon and liked them a lot.

Those are the old Advans, their replacement should be hitting the market soon.
Anyway I had them on my Evo, 255/40/18, and I was very pleased with them. I hear good things about the star specs as well. And I ran those Goodyears on my GTi. I'd take either the Yokos or the Dunlops over the goodyears. |
