Where do people buy their track pads?
I am looking to pick up some dedicated track pads for my wife's 135is. She has a track event in 2 weeks. I am looking to get some Pagid RS-29's or some DTC-60 or DTC-70's.
Can anyone recomend an online retailer with good pricing and fairly fast delivery? Thanks |

Really like that KNS site. Much more user-friendly than most brake/auto parts websites.
Anyone able to comment on if the Hawk DTC-70 is worth the extra $35-40 compared to the HT-10? Just for weekend track use. Looking to pick something up before next event in May. OEM pads hold up remarkably well and don't fade, but also provide little to no braking in the first few inches of pedal travel (due to material compression, not air in the brake lines). Looking for more immediacy. |

Your description of OEM pads sounds VERY atypical for any OEM BMW pads, which usually have pretty awesome initial bite, but fade badly once you pick up the pace beyond parade laps. Are your pads super worn? If not, I think there may be issue elsewhere...

I've bled my brakes on my own and had the best shop in town do them, and neither improved brake response, more than fractionally. Like I said before, I can depress the brake pedal an inch or so and feel almost no slowing (street and track), but when I get hard on it the stopping power is very good. I prefer having more modulation earlier in the pedal though. I'm due for a free service on the car prior to my next event and plan on asking them to check my brakes while they're at it, but from my inspections they look to still have lots of meat left and I don't think they'll be replacing them. |

My comments on the Hawk's still stand, they are bitchin'! Actually very quiet pads, but dust like crazy. Bedding them in was a laugh and a half. I won't incriminate myself, but it you feel so inclined, you can PM me for more opinions and details on the Hawks.

I have a guy that I go to for pads to get the at cost. I've used hawks, pagids, cool carbons, oem, and just about any other race spec pad I could find for the 135. My favorites are def the hawks. I love the torque they have and the easy modulation they promote. Dusting is an issue with them, as is longevity. The performance also really falls off after 3/4 pad is gone. But considering they are so "cheap" as compared to the pagids and pfc's, it's worth it in the long run. The pagid rs29's and 19's take considerable more pedal effort get the car hauled down, but they do last longer, and are kinder to rotors.
Sorry if this seems jumbled, i'm typing it all before my morning coffee. Just trying to share my $.02. Been tracking my 135 for 3 years now

Thanks all. Sounds like, as it usually is with brake pads, a little trial and error is in store. I'll probably order some DTC70s before my LS date in June and we'll see if it makes any difference on my pedal.

Stay away from HT-10s, they crumbled after 1 track weekend for me, but i am pushing hard, and it was very hot that day. I like DTC-70/60 combo the most out of whats available for 135i. Your wife tracks the car with you? Very nice. You are a lucky man my friend. I wish my wife did the same |

Im lining up for DTC-60 pads for my 2014 lapping season with my dual duty 135i. Have you tried or heard feedback from users of the Carbotech's XP8, or XP10 compounds? I wonder how they compare to Hawks in terms of feal, endurance, noise level, and price point...

I've not heard anything about the carbotech's first hand on the 135. People aht use them love them though. They are expensive as well too. From what I understand though, carbotechs need their own set of rotors, they do well with pad swapping. Hawks on the other hand don't care. In fact if you put them on before you drive to the track, then drive there. They'll actually resurface your rotor and give you a clean surface for the start of your sessions.

Have you found an effective solution for the E82? I've been looking for solutions, and it's pretty scarce...

No pre-made kits that are worth buying. The couple i did see where over $600....ended up just running some hose and sorta doctoring it up. Wasn't pretty but it helped. And before you ask, sorry, no pics of how i did it.

Good to know! So the same rotors can be used, while I alternate from street to track pads?

Because they don't make DTC70 in a rear fitment. 70/60 is the de-facto for heavy cars running Hawk pads. I have dedicated front rotors for the Hawks, but use the same rotors in the rear. But, yes, you use the same rotors because when cold the Hawks are quite abrasive and will clean the rotor surface as you drive along. Just make sure to do some sort of bed-in process before hitting the track.
