I was worried that my 135i would be to low rpm happy, more like a diesel, especially after seeing some early dyno's. But, I am pleasantly surprised and very happy that this engine still loves to rev and has a broad torque spread. It's has a more flexible powerband than a Mushstang. The 135i is super smooth, I think, due to BMW's excellent driveline tuning. It's still a challenging car to drive as you still have to control that power to the rear wheels. Sure, you don't have to wring out the engine to keep the engine on the boil, like you do in the RSX or Civic Si, but I don't think that takes the fun away. It simply adds a different kind of fun. I do love a sweet, easy revving, broad torque spread, and that's why in some ways the 128i and 328i can be a bit more fun to wring out. You have to be more judicious with the prodigious troque of the TT 3.0. In the non turbo 3.0 you rev it longer at street speeds. It can be more fun to drive a lower HP car fast, than to drive a high HP car slow. |

I don't use my first gear much so often I find myself taking off in 2nd and if the pedal is not applied judicially, DSC will cut your power, or with it off, the rear end will break lose. I learned that lesson fast. Like RPM90 said in a high HP car in 2nd gear, breaking the rearend lose, can be dangerous, but thank BMW for the factory understeer.

^+1. I do absolutely agree. Yes, driving a Daewoo around the track on the limit, can give you a lot more fun then doing 200mph with a Bugatti Veyron in straight line.

well... it IS a more expensive car.. I would be upset if it was slower than the 135... more power doesn't = faster car. And if you think it does, you are sorely mistaken.

Of course "power" isn't the only factor. Weight (and traction, especially in 1st and 2nd gear) plays a HUGE role. Btw, how do you define "power"? Are you referring to peak hp? Avg. hp? Peak torque? Avg. torque? Engine torque? Or something else? You should really go read my previous post. Transmission output torque is the keyword(s) here. |

I bought my 135i from a guy who had just ordered a 335d from the factory. When I was picking up my car, he mentioned that the 60-80 time is faster than that of a Porsche Turbo. I don't know the specifics on the fact...but, I do know he has since picked it up. He indicated that the car has an incredible ability to get-up-and-go for passing a car on the highway.

[QUOTE=ru55;5427899]That makes sense!
In the 135, even if you drop it down to 5th gear, doesnt make any difference from 6th. Was VERY supprised!!! (and a little upset)[/QUOTE What you need is some AR catless down pipes and an Evolve front mount intercooler with the above and a custome remap I was running a safe 421BHP and over 445 lbs T. Actually I have both the down pipes (specialy for right hand drive) and the intercooler for sale PM if you are interested and then no 335 or anything else stand much of a chance.... trsut me !!!!!! |

Its funny I read this thread. Today on my way home from work... this guy in a white e91 wagon wants to race. I just floored it in 6th and blew him into the weeds. He kept coming for more. So I had some fun. It wasn't even close. I just killed him from 120 kph until 270 kph! He was so far back (20+ cars, 600m back) it was funny. I'm pretty sure it was a 335i wagon. Because after awhile I let him catch up to me and pass me. Thats always the fun part... seeing their face as they try to figure out what kind of machine you have.
A 335d is a fast car. But not as fast as a 135i. Stock vs stock it is a close race. Stock 335d vs mod'd 135i there is not chance. Total kill. |
