From Lamin-x
"Yes, we use VentureShield Ultra The wax is okay. The glaze and sealant should be okay, but it is best to test it on a small area first to make sure it doesn't stain the film. I'm not sure if the bumper strip wraps around into the wheel well. Each kit is different and we haven't installed one yet. If it doesn't, then you might be able stretch it a little bit to wrap some."

i have never had an issue with 3M and i have it on my car now. Even though it is a pain in the ass to take the car in and get it done, if you do have any issues including it turning yellow they will replace it free of charge

If it's such a pain in the arse to bring your car in why have a product that is known to turn yellow, warrantee of not? I'm not trying to start a coke/pepsi war but I've had several other films and wasn't impressed. Anyway, I'm picking up the car tomorrow with windows tinted and film applied. I'll take some pics of the areas where the film is.

Can this film be removed and/or replaced in the future when it starts to degrade? How difficult a process is it and what risk is there (if any) to the underlying finish?

If you apply a little heat and slowly pull from one corner it peels away without much trouble. I had this film on the side sills of my Elise and it took a ton if track abuse. The previous film on that car shredded like cheese after 2 events.

I just picked up my car an hour ago. The job came out perfect! The side sills (aka rocker panels) came out great! The template actually protects more area then I expected. The seam at the door edge is only visible with the door open and you really have to search for it as it lines up with a bend in the door sill. The film also wraps around the inside of the front and rear of the the fender well. I took some pics but you can't see anything in them. With good eyes you might be able to see the edges of the rear fender flare paint protection but even that takes close inspection.
All this and there's only 280 mystery miles on my odometer! Thanks Lamin-x!!!

looking good
the only downside is leaving my car at the shop for some hours right after picking it up at the dealer - but better than stone chips i guess

Dan,
Love your cars.. stuff looks great... question I have, sorry to hijack, but how do you feel about the wheel studs sticking out so far ?? Are there shorter ones that you could have gotten ??

I could have used slightly shorter ones but I plan on using some other wheels and possibly spacers so I'd rather have them slightly longer than too short.
(that's what she said)

Can't you buy it now and then take it to an installer?
Dan - In your opinion would an installer install the lamin-x purchased by a owner? Because I will do that as well, as Ill likely pick my car up in september for PCD. I'm glad I saw this thread. Thanks everyone! Last edited by theblackangus; 07-23-2011 at 10:41 AM.. |

I sold it in April to make room for the 1M. It had 25K miles on it and was purchased in Oct 06. I think the film was applied almost immediately after purchase. It spent a good bit of time in the garage (I needed something with back seats for the kiddie) so it's not as if it was in the sun a lot but it did spend plenty of hours baking at Road Atlanta the first 1/2 of it's life. I deleted a lot of pics I took when I put it up for sale but here are a few I could find of the front end. I was concerned it would yellow but it never showed any signs at all. I waxed it 2-3 times per year.
