Running in ?

When I picked up my 135i from the stealers at the weekend, I asked the sales guy is it worth running the engine in for around 1000 miles.

The car had only 10 miles on the clock which was the distance from the storage warehouse to the garage.

The salesman said that you don't have to anymore with BMW's as they are run in at the factory.

Does anyone know if this is true and if not what can happen if you don't run it in ?

BMW recommends 1,200 miles below 4,500 RPM, 100 mph, full throttle, or, sustained periods of unvaried RPM.
