For '08, I only paid ~ $200, as the car wasn't registered in MA until late October.

For '09, I paid ~ $600.

The car in question is an '08 135.

For 2009 it was $429 based on a value of $17150

For 2008 (registered in Sept), it was $214 based on $24750

One benefit of buying a car late in the model year is you get the full year depreciation (for excise tax purposes).

Ugh, that's when I really hear it from my wife. For some reason, the down payment, monthly payments, hours in the garage, etc don't bother her much. But when those excise bills come (I have two cars, and used to have a motorcycle too) wow do I hear it.

I'm looking at close to 2K between my Cadoo and Bimmer and her MDX......sucks

$161 for 10 weeks of 2008. $429 for this year (for the 128)

Also similar, anyone see that Gov. Patrick would like to replace a gas tax with a per-mile usage tax?

http://www.telegram.com/article/2009...68/0/FRONTPAGE

So, if you take the turnpike like I do each morning, you'd pay:
a toll, $.0025/mi fee, a portion of your excise tax and $.235/gal tax we already pay.

I have also heard that they are looking to particularly get non-MA residents that work in MA to still pay a raised 50 1/2 cent/gal gas tax.

It goes by the value of the vehicle, so depending on your options that you got it will just vary a little.

Does it factor in options? I don't think the RMV/state knows about options - I think they just use the base price for the model.

Not sure how they come up with the value......It's based on $25/$1000 of value. Car is worth $10K? Excise tax is $250 bucks. For some reason they typically grossly devalue the car (good thing) especially after the first year. It was only like $200 for my Porsche when it was 3 years old.

It's 50% Model Year -1
90% Model Year
60% +1
40% +2
25% +3
10% +4

I believe they use the sticker price with no options, here's my math:
$28800 * 60% * 2.5% = $429

Yes, you should get a prorated rate for the number of months, unless you buy in January, then of course you'll pay the year
