Yeah, just talked to Andrew at AA and ordered my tune including the Simon programmer. It's actually a great deal considering that you can get free tune updates when installing new mods, like 3 stage manifold and alike, but only if you have the simon tool

Thinking about it, just a bummer having 3 kids in College at the same time is eating away my monthly "fun" money

The one thing i don't like about that sort of tune (especially if i were to get one for australia), it's not done to the fuel available, humidity, temperatures.. Even the particular characteristics of your individual motor.. It's still a super conservative tune done to work on any car in any country

Ed: what was it $700 or $800 inc the simon?

In between, 749.-

Actually, with the Simon tool, if you go on a dyno, you can get a modified tune for your setup, if I understand correctly.

plus, I think the tunes don't need to cater to fuel and temperature because the car automatically does that. if it senses it gets a lower fuel quality, the car auto does whats needed to protect it. Now, if you want to go to race fuel, they would probably have to give you a custom map.

So, received the Simon tool today and downloaded the ECU data from the car, sent it via email to Andrew and now having to wait until Monday to get the tune, damnit

The tool is simple as it gets, install driver on Windows PC, connecting to the OBD port in the car and follow instructions on the screen to read and save the data file. Connecting to the PC and saving the file, than emailing it of to AA.

I let you know how it goes.

Got my tune today

Uploading via the Simon tool is a breeze, happy I got it because.............otherwise I would have had to send my ECU back to AA to retune it.

After installing it I have a small little problem which I hope they will be able to fix. From a stop, pressing the throttle, the car will bog down a bit before actually accelerating. Not just a delay but more like on an old misadjusted carburator. Sent an email to Andrew and I'm certain he will be able to take care of it. (hopefully )

Anyone else had that issue???

Hmmmm?? Maybe there is a problem with fuel delivery How does the car feel otherwise? Like during acceleration and through the whole powerband?

Anything after the initial hiccup feels just fine, takes on gas quickly and no problem at all. I am putting the original tune back in as we speak and will see how it goes.

OK, put the original tune back, and everything is back to normal. Went ahead and loaded the new tune again, still the same but seem to get better with time. Took a 10 minute drive and was pretty much as it used to, just more responsive, but no hiccup anymore. Either the ECU is adapting to something or it's only a problem when the engine is cold. I will see how it goes tomorrow morning with a cold engine.

Besides that, the pull is quite an improvement, I mean not like a turbo kicking in, or like my 928 S4 used to be, but a nice steady pull from 2k to 3k, from there to 6k it's just purely fun. It's really difficult to make out the exact differences of OEM and AA tune, but given that I can go back to the OEM at any time, I might do that just for fun once I have solved the problem and report back with a better and more detailed report.

it could be that it needs to adapt.I was told it takes about ~500 miles to fully adapt and also you should floor it a couple of times. You should dyno before and after!

I'm amazing at how unresponsive to questions AA is in this thread! Can't imagine actually buying a tune from them when they can't answer basic questions!

That's kind of where I'm getting to. I loved my AA parts on my E36, but I can't even get a response to the most basic questions here.

Yeah, I've tried asking in other threads about their supposed Stage 2 tune, but got nowhere.

Would you like me to make a call for you today, and see what the deal is on a possible N52 1 series exhaust? I'd be glad to help!

What are you looking to find out about the stage 2 N52 tune specifically?

What I know off the top of my head is they adjusted some of the valvetronic characteristics and were able to really make an impact on the tune.

Sure, that would be excellent. They just made one from the N52 E90, so I was curious if they were going to modify it for our use.
