C5 Vette

So I'm thinking of maybe getting a used C5 Vette (1997-2004) to replace the 1er as my fun car.

Anyone have any experience with this generation? I'm not looking for a Z06 or fixed roof coupe for all out performance- maybe a convertible or at least the Targa top. Still deciding between 6M and automatic.

Any thoughts besides "It's a Chevy?"

I like the 1er better all around. My mom used to have a C5. It always felt like I was riding around in a skateboard with a roof. They are fun, but the squeak from everywhere, and the interior is terrible.

Personally, I'd only get a C6Z06. Maybe settle for a C5Z06...

Dude, DON'T get a normal C5! Seriously, they are NOTHING like the Z06. That being said, the auto sucks, and it doesn't make the best daily driver.

With sticky, wide rubber on it can be a handful on bad roads, but the C5 Z06 is hard to beat for performance/$$$ ratio.

I'm looking to replace my 135i with an '09 Z06 and have found the online Corvette forums a great source of information. Try corvetteforum.com for a link to their C5 forum at the bottom of the webpage.

A C5 with the Z51 handling package is a great car, track ready and autocross ready.

Post some pics when you make the move.

I like the performance of the Z06 but to be honest, I'm not looking for an all out track car- the fixed roof would be a deal breaker for me.

Yeah I've been spending some time over there- it's a great forum. In fact, it's one of the only forums I've spent any time on (miata.net being the other) where probably 98% of the posts/users absolutely love their cars. Very little negativity, even with the problems that some people have.
