My (new to me) 2010 135i
Hello -
This is my first post. Shortly before my father's 95th birthday he bought this new titanium silver 135i. Dad flew B29's in WWII and always loved to fly. He is no longer able to drive and the car is now mine. I have spent the last week putting about 500 miles on the car down in Texas before shipping it up to me here in MA. It has almost 11K miles on it. It's a great car but I already own a nice P car, and I really don't need or want another sports car. It has been suggested to me to keep it as it was dad's last car, but is this model something worth hanging on to for many years? I could trade it in for something else, but I don't need anything else. The toy box is very large and it is just one more thing added. It is registered and insured for a few more months so I'm figuring to drive it for a little while and see how it plays out. Is it a keeper or not? Any thoughts? And yes, it is parked in a handi-capped spot as dad has a valid certificate Thank you. Regards, Al

That's quite a story
I like the idea to keep it. But perhaps, make it unique with your fathers input. Have a vinyl wrap specialist apply a aviation or another similar heritage theme to it. Or better yet have an Airbrush artist do the same. Alternatively, there is the interior to dress up. Its a BMW, so the reliability will be there minus the turbo issues. And as the 993 will age better, drive this instead.

Well, I definitely hear the emotional vs logical battle being waged. That being said, it's just a car. Your father would probably say the exact thing, especially being a military man. We don't BS. That said, stay logical and if you think it's just taking up space, you should get a decent price for it. Probably 25-28K?
Good luck. |

agree with what others said... If you dont like it after the insurance runs out then get rid of it, if you do... keep it.

Make this your daily driver(it's a great one) and use the 993 on the weekends. Since it's your fathers last car you might want to keep it, i would. It's going to remind you about him especially after he leaves this earth. I would hold on to it for a while but i got a feeling you're going to love driving it.

Thank you for the responses.
I have enjoyed driving the car and will for a few more months before making my final decision. All the points made are valid and I'm grateful for the response. It does make me smile when I think of him driving it, and I laugh when I think of the purchase. I've been the passenger and at times it was scary. We all said WTF when he bought it, but then said, why not, he might as well have fun. I wonder what the salesman thought. At this point, his legs have more or less given out and I had to take the key fob on Dr.'s orders. Yes, dad is a heck of a guy and always got what he wanted. A tough old full bird. The car is still in Texas awaiting transport, but should arrive here next week. Sheet metal is just that, sheet metal and I really can't see hanging on to it for nostalgia sake. I'd use it as a DD but cannot in the winter up here. With 10K miles I'll be looking at some new rubber soon and am not sure I want to do that for a car I'm not planning on keeping. I do see it's value dropping roughly 10K in the next five years, so you can kind of see my dilemma. I was wondering if you guys thought this car will be destined to become a classic of sorts ( one of the reviews I read said they thought it would be) and is worth hanging on to. Not that I expect it to hold or increase in value, just be a fun desirable piece. It is a hoot to drive. For DD use I have 26 traffic lights to go through on my way to work, so that is a fair amount of stop and go. I really don't drive the 993 enough to satisfy me so another in the mix seems silly. Thank you. Regards,
