HPFP is gone

Well last nigh on my way to gym I got long cranks followed by rough idling and service engine yellow light. Car is at the dealer, and according to service guy is the failure of the HPFP. My car is 2009 with 3162 miles on the odometer. BTW car was fine on my way to work. No signs of HPFP going bad at all.

Sorry to hear, my 09 is also in the dealer for the same thing. Had the exact same symptoms.

The funny thing is, the dealer preemptively replaced my HPFP last week, 3 days after I picked her up, the new pump failed

Wow.....sounds like this is worth taking up the food chain. Call BMW NA and complain. Two different pumps failing in less than a week. You should be due at least one months car payment.

Seriously...this HPFP issue is never gonna end. Sad. Otherwise this is such a great car.

Three years from now all our N54 driven cars will be giant paper weights. The pumps will all be dead...and the pump manufacturer will be out of business due to all the failures. BMW will offer $500 discount on new cars instead of fixing out N54s. Lol.

BMW just like Toyota, they lied about HPFP failure rate, continue to blame the fuel and don't know how to fix it right!!! It is unacceptable for a manufacturer attemped to fix the same problem 4 times and failed. I am extremely disappointed cause my car starting to have long cranks and logged in the low fuel pressure error code related to the HPFP, but my dealer still did not want to replace the HPFP. I did not push for them to replace since I know the new pump won't fix the problem. So, I am just waiting for my HPFP to die completely and hopfully, I won't be straned on the road side else I will be real piss:-)

Been there, done that...my lease payment for the month was refunded by the dealer which I think is fair compensation for my troubles. I feel bad for my SA, he has been great to work with but it has just been a comedy of errors.

My SA didn't confirm the PN with me but I asked him and he said it was the newest version and that they have experienced this with the new pumps. Although he also mentioned that they have had the new pumps work just fine so it seems hit or miss...clearly mine was a miss.

I agree however in this case, at least our problem causes our cars to DECELERATE. BMW has had 4 years to fix the problem, I just don't understand it.

Decelerate is still not safe on highway especially a big truck was right behind your bumper. It is just a matter of time for this kind of tradegy to happen.
