$589 Dealer Fee?
Hey everyone! I'm just wondering if this $589 dealer fee is standard across the board if you order a BMW? My CA told me that this dealer fee is charged by all BMW dealers. Apparently my CA forgot to disclose this "dealer fee" to the total line-by-line out-the-door price when we were doing the negotiations for my 135i ED.
Thanks in advance! |

I don't believe I had any fees other than title and registration and the usual fees for the loan origination.

I had the fee, but when I made my offer I told them my offer includes the dealer fees, and they accepted... With the other stealerships I was in talks with, they refused to include the fee in my offer, and wanted to add it on top...

I had a line called "other options" on my price disclosure sheet, with a total of $2454 (Canadian mind you). That apparently included freight and admin fees. When I shopped around to another dealership, they took $459 off that line to bring it to $1995 for freight (standard in Canada). So yeah, just tell them to roll it in or you're going somewhere else.

Ya I came on here to ask the same thing...
I asked the CA if people really are paying MSRP and he laughed like no way. Then I told him i know the exact invoice price and am willing to pay some above and to make an offer. I even said please do not add a bunch of bs fees. So he printed out the invoice compared to msrp form and it sure enough was the correct invoice...with a 400$ MACO, 150$Training and Service and a 600$ Doc fee. Totaling...1k off MSRP. I asked him what each fee was and he could not even guess. I then asked the sales manager who said some bs about waiving them would induce a class action lawsuit and that dealers were standard in the two adjacent states. I then said I live on the border of a third state and he said that it was actually standard across the US. I dont think he was giving me a crazy bad deal but it all smelled so we walked. |

The MACO and Training fees are legit......that $600 doc fee sounds fishy

Good deal, $589 is very, very high for a doc fee. I would tell your dealer that you have competing dealers that are cheaper, and make them chop $300-$400 out of the sale price to bring the total cost in line with their competitors. Let us know how it goes.

Always curious on what all the Doc fees actually consisted of. On my 135 I didn't pay any Doc fees as it was a military sale. However, I did take the documents from BMW to the state DMV to have the title transferred, paid the state sales tax and registered the car for license plates all myself. Took a couple of hours and had to pay the tax and title fees.

Doc fees are just extra profit for the dealer. Many states have a limit on how much they can be. Usually around $50. The states that don't seam to really try to tack on as much as they can. |

Same question here.
Went to a dealer yesterday What document and other fees dealers charge for ED? I saw 2 fees, $199 and $320, I am sure one of them is totally bogus and pure dealer mark up. I am in NJ and I think DMV fees are: $85 for title with Lien, $59 for registration and not sure about new plates fees. Last edited by amdmaxx; 07-26-2009 at 03:47 PM.. |

I paid $190 as a doc prep fee on my 135i exactly 30 days ago.
Edmunds.com has this to say: Doc fees: In states where doc fees are not regulated by the government a dealership will often sell a car at a very attractive price but then hit the buyer with a $399 doc fee when the contract is drawn up. If you refer to our chart, and see that doc fees are not capped in your state, you should find out early on in the buying process what the dealership charges. If it is high — anything over $100 — you will need to negotiate more aggressively to offset this price. There is a chart on this page: http://www.edmunds.com/advice/buying...4/article.html I'm not sure how accurate it is. I paid more than the chart says I should have, but I'm not about to argue about $29. My dealer threw in a substantial gift certificate about a week after the deal was done that more than made up for that. Way more.

In FLORIDA there is no CAP on dealer fee.. so it usually around $599 ...
Even for Mini.. Florida is sucks for those... so $600 dealer fee is common in Florida.. You even buy a Mazda and pay the same fee.. or Smart car..
