We are talking retail not discounted.

Edit: BMW.com.au lists a standard M135 as retail $71,962.50 Drive Away in Victoria. As I have been saying, M235i's will be, in my opinion, retail closer to $90k with a standard higher spec PLUS options. Just my guess of course ie close to E82 135i retail prices.

We were talking retail WITHOUT driveaway costs or options (the CLA45AMG is $86,900 with absolutely nothing, just the non-driveaway price which was what the original article quoted was referring to) so the M235i will be under 80k in an apples for apples comparison.

Off the BM Aus site:
(NOTE this is the MSport Pack not the M235 per se, there is no detail on that yet, I'm just speculating and making conversation)

I have deleted some of the text to highlight some interesting points:
  • 17's standard... interesting
  • 18's optional
  • Cloth seats standard..... nice but also interesting
Is BMW de-specifying the car so as to drop their base price point? me thinks so. Add met paint, I assume will be a cost option (AW is the only non met colour choice listed), roof and 18's an audio upgrade. It is looking like they want to be in the A45/CLA45 price point but to do so they are ripping off features from what the E82 135 had as standard. anyways....

M Sport package.

...................... Large 17" M light alloy wheels in Doublespoke style 460M help emphasise the athletic styling. The BMW Individual High-Gloss Shadow Line features high-gloss Black side window surrounds, including on the mirror base and frame. Eight wide kidney grille slats finished in high-gloss Black, the side "M" logo, chrome tail pipe, and exclusive Estoril Blue paintwork complete the M Sport package aesthetics.

Other colours for the M Sport package are also available, including Mineral Grey metallic, Black Sapphire metallic, Glacier Silver metallic, Mineral White metallic, Alpine White non-metallic and Melbourne Red metallic.

18" M light alloy wheels in Double-spoke style 461 and the Chrome Line are also available.

The M Sport package features an interior with M door sill finishers and sport seats for the driver and front passenger in exclusive M-style Anthracite Hexagon cloth/Alcantara upholstery with contrast stitching in Royal Blue. Further highlights of the M Sport package include the M driver foot rests, ...........

Black Dakota leather, Oyster Dakota leather, Terra Dakota leather and Coral Red Dakota leather are also available with the M Sport package upon request.

If BMW start ripping stuff out of the M235i to meet the CLA45 price point then they will loose big time. MB have a clear message - $95K drive away with everything you would want. metallic paint sunroof .... blah blah blah ... all there. Cloth seats on a M235i ??? what are you thinking BMW!!!. Have you seen the seats in the CLA45?. Piss all over an M-sport seat and these used to be the benchmark. Wake up and smell the roses.
Walking around the showroom the other day and I was surprised of the driveaway prices for the spec on show. The E400 caught my eye at $139K driveaway. That car would compete with the 6 series in specs and size and save you at least $60K. I think MB has started a pricing war to win market share and with their current range looking so fresh its going to send BMW prices tumbling. About time too!!

I agree , we have had a loaner M250 recently and the comfort, electronics etc are far superior to our 2013 X5, the drive train is still much better in the BMW IMHO. But the CLA 45AMG looks like it has the engineering muscle to back up the Merc comforts / technology............ It will be a tough choice when we decide to exit our 1er.

Gosh, was just looking at the 2 series info on the BMW Australia web site, and per above, the picture of the M Sport with the cloth / alcantra seats looks tragic.

Bad. The 135 M Sport spec level should be the absolute minimum to expect in a new model, especially in this new world with very well spec'd and affordable AMG cars gate crashing on BMW's party.

If I'm not mistaken, isn't that a 220i/220d with the M-sport package and it isn't the M235i? I think you guys are jumping to conclusions as to what the M235i will be like.

Back in the day a 125i E82 M-sport also came with 17s, non-xenons etc which was very different from the 135i M-sport. It is also very likely the case here.

Nice post Pete, I heard about it just a while ago too.

Great $, and the options for the M235 are offset too as they look like some of the kit is standard so "upgrade/option packs" are cheaper than for the rest of the range.

So loaded I'm guessing RRP$90k for the M235, about where I thought it would land.

Cool, thanks. Where did you get the prices from? Can't see it on their web site yet.

Any indication of spec levels and what comes standard? Does the M235i have the Professional Multimedia Package as standard seeing as how it's 'not available'.

Just got emailed by one of the Sales guys over at BMW Melbourne

It seems Estoril Blue is exclusive to M-Sport package and M235i.

I'd post the whole thing up, but its got his name all over it. Probably better I didn't post it up. Just ring em up and ask as they officially received info about the 2 today so can answer any questions you ahve.

I would assume Pro Mutlimedia is standard hence the 'not available' and the cheaper M235i cost options are a result of the standard inclution of a selection of the features within those packages on the M235i

Just read it on AUSmotive instead.

M235i = $79,990 + ORC

Overpriced IMO, especially against the competition. How do they justify $15,000 extra for the coupe vs hatch? Anyway, it's just more evidence of BMW price gouging Australians. They will be selling a 228i for 33k in USA, anyone heard anything about this model coming here?

Time to look at a CLA45 AMG or S3 Sedan as next car. On the bright side, this is good news for 135i resale values.

Well the M235i is better value than the 135i but not good compared to its AMG rival. Any idea then what rip off BMW charge for dealer delivery + on roads thesedays?

1st: it's an $11k extra.

2nd: the same way Merc justifies a $12k extra for the CLA45AMG compared to the A45AMG in a sedan vs hatch? Or how about the $13k difference between the A250 and CLA250?

Yes, CLEARLY there's evidence that BMW is the only one that price gouges and the Merc/Audi you mentioned are much better priced.

The $90k that Alpine mentioned will be a good starting point to negotiate down from. I'm not sure why people were saying that the M235i was going to be the same price as the CLA45AMG.
