The felt didn't do anything for me. I had to end up spraying the entire hinge assembly (and then some) with some silicone lube. Removed the rear panel behind the armrest (facing the back seat) and went to town.

Wiped away the excess/runs and all is well. I have a squeak actually inside the armrest itself but its 90% better.

This worked me for me too. Spray a good quality lubricant on hinge that is designed for plastic/vinyl like 303 aerospace, and wipe excess off...

Stupid armrest. Mine screams like a banshee. My fix: raise it up and never use it. Wish I could just remove it.

I have the ultimate fix for that dam squeaky arm rest. Fold a microfiber cloth to about 1.5 inch in thickness and place it in the armrest. You will feel resistance while closing the arm rest. Too much no good, too little no good but you need just enough to make that squeak go away. IT WORKS!

Didn't know this was a problem for a lot of owners! I was really annoyed with the armrest squeaks on my last drive...

Just hitting 6 months / 6000 miles and my arm rest has begun squeaking when rolling over any road surface irregularities. I just finished applying 303 and was able to eliminate 95% of the squeaks I was previously able to duplicate while the car was static... the proof will be tomorrow's commute!

Rick, my armrest is screaming for help... lol

Did you 303 trick work? If so, what is it and where do I but it? THANKS!

It did... but was only effective for a couple of days.

Aerospace 303 is a 'protectant' for plastic, vinyl, rubber, etc. that has UV protection as well. Some people use it on interiors or tires, but I use it mostly for large plastic surfaces on the exterior of my wife's car, and the few plastic exterior bits on my car (rear panel, mud guards, engine compartment). http://www.autogeek.net/303aerprot.html

Next time I apply some sort of lube to the assembly it will be tire dressing. However, the squeaks have largely gone away now that winter is over and my run flat winter tires have been removed and PSSs reinstalled.

I know this is an old post but I was just messing with the suggestion and I noticed that squeak that I'm getting is actually from the latch. I have a 2013 135is. So maybe they fixed the hinge issue, but the latch probably could use some silicone grease. I was also thinking about spraying some anti squeak brake liquid in there too.

I gave up on that dam squeak. Brought it to the dealer and they replaced the whole thing. I am squeak free.. well.. for the time being.

Looks like I need to head to the dealer and start the process of documenting the squeak. They will probably want to lube it several times over several visits, plus test drives, before they do something as drastic as recommend warranty replacement.

Tell them the arm rest intermittently pops open while your driving and almost caused an accident. Call it a safety issue and they will change it for you and change it fast.

PS: put a rubber band around the arm rest before you bring it in.

The armrest just sucks IMO. I removed it, 100% gain and zero loss for me.

You don't need new hex nuts, reuse the ones that held the armrest on, same part number: 64509123157

I can confirm that this works. I was determined to try the rubber pegs or liberal spray of 303 but I decided to give this one quick try. All the squeaking is gone and I don't have to rest my arm on that dang arm rest anymore. Yay! Thanks for sharing the wonderfully simple fix. Now I just have to explain to my passenger why I am carrying microfiber cloth in there if they happen to open it. 😜

I used 3m self adhesive Velcro - loop side. You need to cut it into small strips (just cut width wise) and adhere it to the top cover and hinge assembly at the back. It pinches on the Velcro and prevents the plastic from contacting, so it can't squeak. I also lined the rear portion of the console that comes off to access the bolts holding it in place, has been silent ever since. I've done this to several vehicles to eliminate panel vibration or noise. Had to line the entire center console on my Ford Escape to make it silent. Works like a charm though.

Not at the moment, no.

My car is away for the winter in a storage facility. When I get it back in May I'll create a detailed DIY of what I did
