Options and resale.

So I am not unhappy with the sticker price. BMW options are quite expensive compared to other makers. Optioning out a 335i is what lead me to the 135i to be honest. I wanted a loaded 335xi.

So with the 135i being a more purer sport coupe, I just want the basics. Metallic, sport, and cold weather. I think I have to have power seats for them to be heated???

So if I don't get power seats, will that hurt resale? They are almost expected these days. Premium package too. I actually keep my cars for some time, so I won't get rid of it in a few years. I was just wondering if I do decide to sell, will it move if it is a stripped down version? Who would want a eccono BMW? Although there is no way anyone is making back option prices.

+1. I really wanted power seats, but really do not need them as I will be the only driver and could save $1K, but I worry if I do not get them it will hurt my resale.

Well that's 2 people that don't want so there's probably more out there, hehe

I don't think it would necessarily hurt resale, sure a car with power seat might fetch a slightly higher resale, but would it be enough to offset the inital cost?:iono:

BTW...I don't want power seats either

I don't think power seats would be a deal breaker ... someone can always have power seats installed if they wanted them bad enough ...

It would also depend on the cars use .. if weight was a factor, the no power seats would actually be a plus

Make that one more person who couldn't care less about power seats!

Quite honestly I could never understand the big deal with power seats in the first place. Most people's cars are driven mainly by one person, & once the seats are adjusted for you they really shouln't need adjusted very often.:iono:

It sure as hell isn't worth $1000!

+1 for manual seats. I set 'em and forget 'em, plus I can use the extra headroom and lesser weight. Btw, you can get butt warmers separately, and skip the "stain my hood blue" headlamp sprayers.

It

Personally, I would never option a car based on what somebody else might want. Are you buying this for you or the next guy? Hell, you may even decide this is the one you drive into the ground. Get it how you want it and love it!

The only rationale for ordering an option that you don't want is the idea that the option will be worth MORE in the resale market than you paid for it. In other words, the idea is that you pay, for example, $1,000 for the option now and then your car will fetch $1,500 more than it otherwise would when go to resell it. Frankly, I'm skeptical that such an option exists. In reality, it's more likely that you spend $1,000 on the option now and your car is worth something like $300 more when you go to resell it. An exception might be something like an automatic transmission which is probably going to hold more of its value as an option because more Americans prefer them. Bottom line: buy what YOU want and forget about what you're going to get from the resale.

Those are my thoughts too, but it is sort of weird having a luxury name brand, without the amenities. That isn't what I want this car for, and a bare bones 135i would be awesome. I would take it over a loaded 128i any day. Which is what I'm doing.

+ another one for non-power seats..
At 6'5" I need all the headroom I can get ans std seats provide at least 1/2' - 1" additional headroom..

Sweet. I had to look it up again. Heated seat as stand alone and it does not require power seats.

Metallic, Sport package, heated seats, and maybe, maybe comfort access. $38,100. I'm in.
