So, I used no shocks for a while, and bought a decent black broom handle to hold the hood open when I was working or at a show.

Then I decided one day to try it with just one shock, and I'm soooo glad I did, because it works great, and looks a heck of a lot better than the broom handle.

So, just use one shock, haha. Easy

the hood looks great. your hood lines up well. you can close the hood/fender gaps slightly by unbolting the top of the fender and pushing it in slightly. There is some adjustment there.

I have a vorsteiner hood which is very light. I do not have shocks on it. I just prop it open when I work under the hood.

I suggest M3 shocks as some have suggested. Many people have used them with good results. However, if you opt to use none, it is only a minor inconvenience

your other mods looks great as well. Please keep posting photos of your build.

Thanks to all for your comments and help; I greatly appreciate it. I ordered a new Roundel and E92 M3 hood shocks/struts; they should arrive Wednesday or Thursday -- more pics to follow once they get installed.

For anyone who has AeroCatch fasteners installed on their CF hoods, can you post pics of your installation (on hood and pins in engine bay)? Specifically, I'm looking for measurements/offsets as to where your assembly on the hood was secured and where in the engine bay your pins are installed. Thanks...

I use an adjustable shower curtain rod.

Classy I know.

Use one stock shock... easiest solution.

I drilled two holes in the CF hood and installed the Roundel today. I also got two E92 M3 hood shocks/struts and installed them. The SleK CF hood closed easier/nicer than using one stock hood shock IMO, but there was just enough "resistance" to hear "crickedy" sounds which I interpreted as "not a good thing" for the CF hood mounting points, so I removed one of them and now I think it is perfect. Again, IMO.

Crappy week weather-wise here, so better pics to come soon I hope. But for now...

Just dropped the 1 off yesterday to get the AeroCatch fasteners professionally installed onto my SleK CF hood. Can't wait see it when its done and to get her back.

What is your opinion?
  • Should I get the hood painted SGM? (So far the hood is not painted and I have BMW Performance CF side mirror caps and BMW Performance CF rear spoiler so CF "theme" carries from front to sides to rear.)
  • What mod should I save up for and focus on next?
    • LSD?
    • Power? (Is the BMW Performance Power Kit worth it to get 2 more year warranty on the motor or no?)

Is it possible to paint this hood? Does Slek sell them painted?
