Winter Tires Lower Aspect Ration Non Run Flats

I've been reading various threads, sorry if I should be posting to another thread, but I didn't find this discussion. I've seen quite a few complaints about non-run flat winter tires activating the DTC. I'm looking to buy a set of winter tires for my 135i and was wondering if going to a lower aspect ratio would help. I figure the shorter sidewalls should be stiffer. Anyone have any experience with 215/45R17? I'm thinking of going with 215/45R17 Blizzaks. I don't want RFTs as my area gets a ton of pot holes in the winter and I don't want to bend or crack a RIM. Are there other tire brands that have stronger sidewalls?

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks
