123d efficiency after 4000km
In case some people are interested here are some number from my 123d after I've completed 4000km:
Current economy: 5.8L/100km Maximum economy: 5.8L/100km Minimum economy: 4.9L/100km Shortest tank: 750km (mainly urban, filled up before empty) Longest tank: 1050km (mainly highway, very close to empty) Overall I'm absolutely over the moon at the economy of the car plus the performance is good enough that my girlfriend enjoys it. There are two downsides to the diesel engine that I've discovered: 1) The diesel rattle can be a little grating sometimes, especially when cold. 2) At low boost between 50-60km/h the turbos produce an almost annoying whine. Otherwise the torque is phenomenal and once you get revving the diesel clatter effectively disappears. Plus, the sound of the engine, which isn't a symphony like a straight-six but instead just sounds like a wall of power, is really starting to grow on me. |

not bad... I only barely managed similar numbers in my Hyundai i30 diesel.
do you leave behind big clouds of white smoke when you accelerate hard? that and the lumpy acceleration were the 2 things i hated most about my diesel |

The exhaust is astoundingly clear, even on a cold start. If you couldn't hear the motor or see the badge I imagine it'd be quite hard to tell what it is.

Starting to look forward to mine. Will be interesting to see what it gets on a drive from Melbourne to Canberra & back.
Cheers, Alf

I've NEVER seen any smoke of any sort out the back of mine, and 90% of the time you'd be hard pressed to tell you were driving a diesel. The only time it's obvious is a bit more noise when you really get up it.

The engine drinks like a bee through a straw! I was absolutely thrashing my 123d loaner down OPH and it still returned 6.7L. Plenty of torque for blasting out of corners too. I wouldn't mind one as a DD in manual just to save the hassle of refueling more than once a week.

Those are brilliant numbers. I've yet to drive a 123d but from what I've heard they are rocketships once moving.

I drive my 123d at full throttle basically everywhere. 200kph on my way to work most mornings. Still averaging around 7 litres/100km. Even when I did the Nürburgring it averaged 7.6l/100km!

E17 southwest of Antwerp is 3 lanes each way with light traffic and no speed cameras It's not the shortest way for me to get to work but well.... you understand.

I can't get my 123D to do better than 6.8L/100 with careful driving. So, now I don't bother and drive a bit more aggressively and I still get the same result. I have done nearly 7000Km.

My experience is similar to yours. 6.8 or 6.9 in daily driving. I'm not too gentle on the throttle, though, and it's mostly roof down driving which adds a bit of turbulence and associated drag.
Best I've had was 6.2 on a long trip with the roof up. Cheers, Alf.
