Won't go into reverse gear?
Hi All, I have a 2011 135i 6MT and the car won't go into reverse gear. I can move the shifter to the far left and then slightly forward but it won't "fall" into reverse gear completely. All of the other gears engage no problem both with the car running/driving and off. Even without the car running it won't fall completely into reverse. I bought the car used last year with 52K miles and it has 59K now. Never had an issue. I am not sure if/when the last time the tranny fluid was changed but that's probably my next step. Hoping not to take it to the dealer. Any help is appreciated!

Nope. Took it to BMW they wanted around $3500 for a tranny replacement but did kindly suggest it was only the reverse pin that wouldn't engage and needed replaced. I haven't decided if this is something I want to tackle myself or perhaps have a local tranny shop do it for a mere $1500 to fix. I guess it's fairly rare to have this happen I just happen to be the lucky one.

I know this is an old thread but figure I will post some info.
Currently my 135i is having the same issue, was quoted over $6,000 for a replacement transmission only becasue the reverse linkage or gear will not engage. The dealer urged me to call BMW NA who have only offered to pay about $1,200 towards a replacement transmission. Seems BMW NA is admitting to an issue here but unwilling to completely recognize it and do right by the consumer. |
