Labor Day Morning Drive
You ever get those mornings where you wake up early for whatever reason and just say, "I want to go for a drive?"
That rarely ever happens to me because I never have the time to enjoy a blissful morning of quality time with my 128i. But this morning, I made the time and also partly due to the fact that I have a day off. I looked out the window to see a world with a dark blue hue, the sun was just about to rise, with the morning fog about to dissipate. And I said to myself, "Yes, I think I'll go for a drive, I have nothing else to do." I open the garage, shift into neutral, and quietly roll the 1er out of its bay. Cold-starting the car with a golf-tee modded exhaust would resonate through the entire house and surely wake a parental unit up or two. After getting near the end of the driveway, I fire up the engine and listen to the initial growl, the smirk is already on my face. I turn on my angel eyes and step out of the car to do walk around and read the curves of the car, as if I hadn't already done so about 100,000 times over. But there is something about Deep Sea Blue when it is freshly washed that the reflections pool and bend, panel by panel. I step back in and grip my left hand on the wheel and with my right I shift into first and start my adventure. With a low hum and some low-volume music I take an enjoyable drive on slightly damp roads as the engine warms itself up. Soon, that low hum slowly meanders into growling as the revs increase. I make my way over to the known roads, the kinds riddled with yellow signs of tri-curves and S's, it was about 7am and I saw about 5 people leaving their houses to take their dogs out for their morning duties. And as the revs increased the engine began to roar and bring life into the hollow woods surrounding me. There is no smile on my face at this point, I am totally immersed in my BMW and all focus is on the road as I shift between 2-3-4, the brake pads tightening on the rotors as the 128i eats the apexes and again opening its mouth to take another morsel of a sharp bend. After 25 miles, I had my fill and effortlessly made my return home. At about 1 mile before reaching my final destination I thought to myself, "This is still the perfect car for me, even after 5 years of ownership!"

Funny I had a similar experience this morning. Came back from a long trip to Europe yesterday and realized I made my final payment on mine. Woke up rather early today and took her out for a top down blast. Yup still love this car. Thx for sharing.

Nothing better than some "one on 1" time! My bachelor party is this weekend and it's a camping trip about 5.5hrs away in West Virginia. I am SO looking forward to that drive!

I'm driving my 135 on some appointments tomorrow. Its suppose to be in the mid to low 60's in the morning.
Sounds perfect for some windows down/sunroof open driving! |

Almost everyday! What part of upstate? I grew up in the Hudson valley between Albany and Poughkeepsie. |
