Throttle response on 135i auto vs manual
Hey guys so I've had the chance to drive a 135i loaner which was an auto while my 135i manual was getting an oil chance and a couple of other things.
I guess the question I'm going ask is more for the people who have driven both the auto and the manual version of the 135i. Basically I feel like the throttle response and the way the boost kicks in feels different between the two cars. The best way I can explain it... Auto: Give 75% to 100% gas you feel full boost and get pushed back into your seat. The car for a split second, after the full boost kicks in, feels slow as if it is not pulling and then you get the sling shot effect and then keeps pulling really hard. Manual: Same thing, give 75% to 100% gas and you feel the boost but not as severely as the auto. There's no push you back into your seat feeling but the sling shot effect happens more quickly and feels like it is more severe and then just like the auto starts just pulling really hard. So am I crazy to think that the throttle response or the way boost kicks in between the two cars is different? I mention throttle response too because I feel like in my manual I have alot more play between 0-50% gas whereas in the auto, in manual mode, I felt that 0-50% gas was more sensitive. |

Maybe you are noticing the different gearing of the cars???

I know the gearing is different but I'm pretty sure it isn't that. The gearing should only account for how hard the car would pull but it wouldn't effect how the boost kicks in or the throttle response.

I think there is a very slight extra pause, as the auto decides, based upon foot imput, which gear is best, before the auto cars respond. Even in first (auto gear) the electronics lag a little to give effect to the foot command.
I have read that this is also the case for NA cars.

It's a different feel for sure. I know exactly what you are talking about when comparing my E90 (step) and 1er (manual). In DS mode, the gas feels very sensitive right when you start to get on it, while the gas on the manual feels slightly lazy until you really step down on it.

the auto also holds the boost through gear shifts you don't get as much of the "sling shot" affect that you get when you lift you foot off the gas and press teh clutch in and then declutch and floor it when u shift.
