Hi

The shameless effort to bump my post count to gain PM access.

My name is Kevin and I have a problem. Seriously, I really do when it comes to wheels and motors. I love cars and motorcycles. As has been mentioned, I picked up BlackjackMulligan's turn in and couldnt be happier. The car is so much fun to drive. Previously, I've owned a 328i Sport Pkg and a '02 Miata and both were at the top of my favorite car list. This car really combined the two vehicles for me.

Im a pretty avid motorcyle track day participant at NHMS and looking to try Autocross. I've been reading some posts in the other subforums. I've done it a few times with a friend at Audi events. I think I've gathered that convertibles are ok at AutoX events but not track events. If that's incorrect, feel free to enlighten me.

Great site and a great online community here. There's a good vibe.

Is the best resource for AutoX info the BMW CCA Forums?
At least the most directly applicable info. I'm looking for an AutoX FAQ.

Primarily, if it's your first time, do you need to go to the school before attending a series event?

For the series events, do you track points throughout the year. Does it mess things up if someone only signs up for four or five events?

How much will I be spending on rims and tires once I get obsessed with this?

best source for informal info is def here. cca website has all the official stuff and there's some good articles there. and obv that's where you sign up

no need to do the school first. i didn't. we have instructors at the regular events too. but if you can, the school's a better way to get your feet wet. half the usual number of people, double the instructors and no scoring

points are tracked for the season and results are up on the cca website, but it's all individual so you won't throw anyone off. iirc you need to complete 6 of 8 to qualify for a trophy etc. i haven't missed an even in 2 years

rims and tires....depends how hardcore you wanna get. i went through a set & a half of tires last year, prob close to $1000 worth. hell, you could EASILY spend 5 grand on a crazy set of DPE or HRE wheels if you were crazy/loaded/addicted
