Great price on Michelin PSS
With the APEX EC-7s on sale right now I've been looking for a good price on the Michelin PSS in 235/265 F/R. I found a great price on Discountedwheelwarehouse.com(DWW) that I thought I'd share with everyone. A lot of local businesses price match so if you're uncomfortable shopping with a business you've never heard of before you can go that route.
Seeing as how I've never shopped with them before and a quick search of them brings up some less than stellar reviews, I decided to just have my local tire place price match them. Through DWW I can get a price total of $799.38 for the following PSS tires: Fronts: 235/40ZR18 95Y XL $182.88 x2 = $365.76 Rears: 265/35ZR18 97Y XL $216.81 x2 = $433.62 TOTAL $799.38 Shipping for me in Texas comes out to $68.45 for total shipped of $867.83 for some top notch tires. The guys over at Discount tire quoted me for $997.12(including tax) installed as their price match, which is a good price for these tires. So I can either go with discount tires quote or order the tires from DWW and hope their customer service isn't as bad as the reviews make them out to be. If I go this route the price would be 867.83+90(Discount tire price to mount/lifetime balance 4 tires)for a total of $957.83. So a $40 dollar savings to try ordering through a company I've never shopped with before. If anyone else has found a better deal, please feel free to share it here as well. |

Bought my Michelin PSS in 225/40 and 235/55 last September from Discount Tire in the Orlando area and paid a little less (963.50) than your quote. Your price from Discount Tire is good, and you will be able to deal with someone local. They did a great job mounting mine with no damage.

Yeah that's a pretty good price, I think getting PSS installed for less than a grand is a good deal, considering I paid around 850 for my Potenza 760 sports. Which, are good tires btw, I've just heard nothing but great things about these Michelin PSS so I figured I'd try them out.

They're typically about a 100 bucks more for a set than they are now. I wouldn't call it a special pricing, they just matched the price I found online, which they will do normally. Also there's a $70 rebate for buying Michelins right now, I think it ends in a week.

DWW has the 19" PSS I'm looking at for $916 vs $1,060 on tire rack. I know TR does free shipping, but even so, it's a good price. Thank you for the find!

My bad! Discount tire direct does the free shipping, not tire rack. So that price is even better! Thank you again

Do price match with discount tire with the above website. Got my PSS's installed today for $1079 with their tire warranty which was $129 and still will get the $70 rebate for these. So tires installed cost me $880.

I went to a discount tire new on my way home yesterday and the guy tried to get me to believe that if I didn't order the tires through them the price of install would be "$300-$400."
I've used discount tires almost exclusively and I know their install price on tires is ~20 bucks/tire. Don't let a pushy manager try to pressure you into buying through them. A discount tire near my house was much friendly are quoted me for $992 installed. |

Are super sports better than PS2? I've read that super sports are a newer version? I know they have a better tread wear rating at 30k vs 20k. Why would the newer/better tires be cheaper???

Foofopps, I don't really understand the deal either. I was really astounded when I was reading on the 1M side of this site. They were arguing about the new M135 and how well it compared to the 1M on the track. These track knowledgeable guys were complaining that the comparison was not fair because the M135 was using much better tires (PSS vs PS2). Then I found out the wear rating was better, the PSS is much lighter...AND cheaper. That's why I'm trying to get them to fit on my car as we speak.

The PSS are definitely supposed to be a better tire. Motortrend tested them when they first came out, and found them to be superior to the PS2 in almost all aspects. http://www.motortrend.com/features/p...t/viewall.html The difference is probably attributable to a new compound used in making the tires, since the tread doesn't really look much different. Personally, I don't think the difference is really as groundbreaking as people say it is. Michelin just researched and found a better "mix" between different compounds in the rubber of the tire. The price different probably exists because of supply and demand. As the PS2 are phased out, fewer and fewer are being produced. Meanwhile, the PSS are becoming available in more and more sizes, and all the machinery at the michelin factory is probably converted from what they used to make the PS2 to the PSS. So, PS2 are becoming rarer, and available in fewer sizes, so what IS available is marked up compared to the relative surplus of the PSS. Also, whatever compound is made of could actually be cheaper to supply too.

Just used the listed site to get Discount Tire to price match. Went with 225's and 255's to play it safe since I'm lowered. Paid $806 for the tires, and $114.50 for certificates covering anything that may or may not happen to the tires throughout their life. Add $64 for lifetime mounting and balancing and my total came out to $1049.99. The TPMS transfer fee was waved and I still get the $70 rebate. So tires plus install came out to $870. Minus the $70 rebate means I got them for $800. I'm content with this.

I finally bought a set of MPSS for my Apex EC-7s on the way.
I went with F 235/ R 265 18s. I paid $950 including tax, minus the 70 dollar rebate I'll eventually get, $880 for a set of great tires works for me. edit: oh btw, when I ordered my tires, they said the 235s were on national backorder and they had to find some in stock locally, which they were able to. This thread just helped me save some serious cash. Got a set of 215/240 PSSs with tire certificates for $880 after rebates.
Sure beats the $1,100 post-rebate price I was looking at yesterday! |

Kauffman Tire
225/40-18 255/35-18 Mounted, lifetime rotation and balance (negligible use), road hazard, and alignment for $1070 with $70 mail in rebate = $1k out the door Great deal IMHO when including road hazard and alignment. (For PSS, still retarded price for "tires" in general) |
