128 Stoptech/Cool Carbon project
Finally got around to installing the cross drilled front rotors and Cool Carbon pads on my 09 128 Sport. I have done several brake jobs on my past Minis so was not really anticipating any trouble. Famous last words...
Fronts are no problem, just make sure you don't loose the tiny clip from the brake wear sensor when you push it back into the new pad slot. Both my rear rotors were frozen solid to the hub. It took one hours each side of mallet pounding, propane torch heating and PB Blaster to get them off. The car is only 3 1/2 years old, WTF. I used a little grease on the inside of the new rotors to get them off easier next time. Here is a good thread to follow: http://www.pelicanparts.com/bmw/tech...Brake_Pads.htm |

To clarify I used new OEM rotors on the back. There are no cross drilled rears available as far as I know. Rotors came from Turner Motorsports and were much less than the BMW Performance versions.

Looks good! Besides stopping power, can you comment on brake dust.
I do not like what the previous owner put on my 128i...

Very much reduced brake dust with the Cool Carbons after just a 100 miles. You do have to follow a pretty specific break-in procedure.

Just a quick 500 mile update:
- Brakes are nice firm and progressive - Brake dust is now so light I wipe them down about once a week, including my rear bumper which used to be also covered in brake dust. Highly recommended. |
