Dinan Exhaust fell Off!!
Hey Guys - So over the weekend my Dinan Exhaust fell off the car. I didnt hit a bump or anything to break anything, just all of the sudden heard something dragging then if came off while driving. Luckily was able to get the muffler from the middle of the road and didn't cause an accident, but overall pretty freaking embarrassing.
I wanted to see if this as happened to anyone and their course of action. The muffler is 3.5 yrs old and my car is no longer covered under BMW warranty, so i am skeptical they will fix this. I am not sure if the pipe corroded causing it to break off or the hanger bracket broke, regardless I think its ridiculous this should happen on any car let alone a BMW. Would insurance be a good route to go? Would it fall under a comprehensive claim, or collision? Trying to get a good picture of the options before i call up BMW and try and get them to replace this. Thanks!

Wow- Sounds like an install error or a freak accident
If the hangar on the exhaust broke call Dinan and I'm sure they would take care of it. |

That pipe should be stainless. No way it would corrode that fast. Even aluminized would take years to corrode under harsh circumstances. That's plain crazy.

I removed and sold my Dinan recently and it looked great underneath.
It can only come loose in 4 places. Where it bolts to ur connecting pipe, rear exhaust hangar, or ur two front hangars. Seems like an install or freak accidebt |

I would be surprised if BMW is willing to cover a non BMW part especially outside the warranty period.
The warranty indicates: Non-genuine BMW Parts — While you may elect to use non-genuine BMW parts for maintenance or repair services, BMW NA is not obligated to pay for repairs that include nongenuine BMW parts or for any damage resulting from the use of non-genuine parts.

yea they aren't covering it... they said it looks like some sort of impact damage not part related and no way for me to really prove otherwise. Looks like i might be getting the Berk Exhaust and install myself?? maybe a set of downpipes too since I'll be under the car. I'm sure insurance co. will consider collision so probably not even worth going through them
