DCT Auto Downshift When Accelerating Quickly

Okay so I've had this problem and I can't figure it out, so I figured I'd ask the great members of the 1addicts forums The problem I'm having is where I am going anywhere from 30-70 mph and when I floor it to race friends it auto downshifts! I'll have the car in manual mode (don't know how it can auto downshift in manual mode lol) with sport mode on also, but when I accelerate very quickly it immediately brings me from 4th to 3rd gear or 5th to 4th gear.
Here's one example... My friend has a 2012 335i bone stock and gets the jump on me every time because my car auto downshifts from 4th to 3rd and he immediately leaps ahead of me until I shift up again. So during that .5-1 second I get a very awkward feeling from this downshift.
I'm just wondering if theres any way to fix this or if I'm just an idiot that doesn't know how to drive a DCT the right way This is my first BMW and I'm only 20 years old so I don't really have that much background knowledge. Any help is appreciated

Are you pushing the pedal past the kick down? If you press the pedal all the way down lightly you should feel it stop, but then you can push past the "click" in the pedal. This kick down will cause the car to downshift no matter what mode you are in. Stopping at the kick down is still 100% throttle and is more predictable. Once you get used to it you should have no problem keeping yourself from engaging the kickdown.

BMS makes this: http://www.burgertuning.com/downshift_blocker_BMW.html

But I'm not sure how I feel about wedging anything underneath my pedals

I've seen those but I don't know what kind of lead-footed, ham-fisted buffoon would need those. Even when driving the absolute nuts off my car in autocross I've never accidentally pushed past the kickdown. I can't see anyone having issues with it after driving the car for a month or two.

not sure about DCT cars, but MHD you can flash the kick down button off. I did this on my AT and it's been wonderful!

if you want do what rhodesman said and flash with mhd to disable the kick down feature. or just follow what the others said. either way if you were trying to race your friends you should've probably been in that gear anyway

Not necessarily true. I used to get pissed because I would want to floor it in 3rd from like 4k rpms and hit that button by mistake. The car would upshift to 2nd for like 300rpm then I would hit the paddle to go to 3rd at the same time the computer would want to shift because of redline. So then I would go 2 > 3 > 4 in a second and then be in 4th. not that it wasn't preventable but sometimes you get a little over excited and you find yourself fighting the computer.

In all honesty, disabling that kickdown has turned my AT into the best man-u-matic and I love it. I never drive in D or S, only M and I'll probably keep doing that until I blow the AT and swap it for a 6sp. Also, logging a run from 2k or running on a dyno has become as easy as with a manual. Seriously, win/win.

Once again... I am grateful for my manual 6 speed transmission. I decide when to kick down and how much.

It's extremely easy to avoid the kickdown, cuz it takes a lot of extra force to press it and not that much to press the accelerator down to 100%. I've literally never had this be an issue and I'm always flooring my car. DCT doing uncommanded upshifts on the other hand...
