Damn i HATE my squeeling brakes!
My brakes are getting louder and louder...and become extremely embarassing when rolling down the street at 20mph and lightly apply the brakes and SQUEELING down the street and turning heads! Havent brought it in to service, was thinking the cool carbon pads would solve this issue...i hope.

Dont count on that man, my dealer replaced my rear pads and sensors but the squeeking continues. Its getting better as the florida heat is growing but I still get it.
Good Luck! Brian

that is kinda the feeling i have gotten from the majority of folks...seems like a common complaint of bmw owners. that is the reason i was contemplating the cool carbon pads instead of messing with the dealer.

so it has been determined that the squealing is NOT the wear pad indicator? eg the loud audible squeak to let you know you need to change your pads?

Mine didn't start until I hit around 28k miles. Its not that bad, but I think the hot weather is helping my situation.
My car is going in for oil and coolant service next week, maybe I will mention the rear brake squeek again..we will see Brian

I brought my car on wednesday for the same reason. I've got 4k miles. They replaced the front pads, no charge. There is still a slight squeal at times but I understand this is common to the 1. I'm curious to see if the loud/constant under breaking squeal returns.

Am approaching 8000 miles and just started to get brake squealing this weekend. Nothing major yet, but definitely something I don't like to hear!

You guys should try going through a pad bedding procedure to get rid of the squeel. Daily driving that doesn't get the brakes hot can actually take pad material off of the rotor which will contribute to squeeling. If you bed them correctly and transfer pad material back to the rotor I bet the noise will go away.

If there are comments about squealing as you LIGHTYLY brake as you SLOWLY come to a stop, then if this is a normal situation for a driver, the pads may glaze slowly and the squealing just sticks around. Bed them in and give them a good squeeze from speed occasionally. They squeal because they're complaining they're not getting used! |
