All season tires?

Anyone have used both michelin pilot sport all season plus and Conti DWS? Any suggestion or comments? I heard DWS is sloppy, but I thought it would be better since it has stiffer sidewall... How is it? And hows michelin? Please correct me if I m wrong...

The "sloppy" comments come from those that find the move from run-flats to non-run-flats sloppy, as the sidewalls aren't as stiff as the oem tires.

But, overall, the run-flats are awful...and any move away from them is really a positive.

I'm one of many having recently (finally killed the run-flats off) switched to the Continental Extreme Contact DWS and really liked them while they were on the car...it's now winter, so we're on our studded Nokian Hakkapeliitta 5's.

As we have a third set of wheels for the car, I'm considering a set of pure summer tires for the months of May-September, saving the DWS's for Mar-Apr and Sept-Oct, with the winters obviously for Nov-Feb. Per Aryton Senna, you must always be on the right tire at the right time...and it's true.

I've recently put Michelin Pilot A/S Plus on my 135 and I am loving them.

I live in Cleveland. OH too. Haven't driven through any snow like we received 2 weeks ago, but it's been cold with a light dusting of snow. I swear there is more traction on these A/S then my stock RFTs. I haven't been able to break the rearend free from 3000-5000 rpm. Just keeps pushing. I'm sure I will experience "Compromised" snow handling, but when it snows, I will just slow down and get through just fine.

I would recommend these tires to anyone looking for an A/S tire.

I have a 17" wheel package with Extreme Contact DWS, and I am glad I went that route. I can break the tires free from about 2k-4k rpm in the wet, but shouldn't be driving that hard then anyway. I experience more rain than snow in the PNW, and this setup has tremendously reduced hydroplaning issues with the runflats.

IMHO, I think you will do fine with either of the two tires you select. GL with the decision.

I debated between Conti DWS and Michelin PS A/S. I think both are winners.
I went Michelin and love them. Way better than NCT5 RFTs.

Do you have a picture? If so, can you please upload Ane send to me? Did you put on stock rim? What size, did you get 225/40r18 and 255/35r18?

Going away from the RFT's you will definitly be dissapointed in performance going to all season, though it makes up for it in ride comfort. I went with the DWS and it handled 4 inches of snow recently where as with the RFT's I couldn't even get past the driveway.

If you dont track your car you'll be happy with eiather all season tire. If you do track it or love mountain passes I'd get a dedicated summer tire for that and a dedicated winter tire for this season.

The handeling differences are small but noticable between the RFT's and all seasons. Slower turn in's, a bit more roll, and a bit more understeer, but as a daily drivable tire the all seasons are sooo much more well drivable. They make less road noise, softer on bumps and potholes, and are infinetly better in rain and snow. I have fully adjustable coilovers so I can make up for the softness of the all seasons.

I've discovered that some of the DWS "sloppiness" can be dialed out by increasing the tire pressures by a few psi. Incidentally, the problem seems to be feel, not actual traction which is easily equal to the OEM NCT5s on my 128i.

I use the Michelins and I like them: Adequate warm weather grip for my purposes, adequate traction in light snow. Low noise. And don't forget that wear rating!

I went with 225/40 and 255/35 setup after a lengthy attempt to get them put on my stock M-Sport wheels.

I would recommend these tires to anyone looking into A/S.
