power delivery was strong, but no overpowering jump or skip thru the gears. There was little to no lag either. I was very impressed as for the looks compared to the 135.... if u have the sports package on the 128 u wont see to much difference in the wheel wells, obviously the front fender is a different story... over all they looks equal

Only 100 miles on mine. Got it today. The 128 is fast enough .scary smooth because yes you will be at 90 on the highway with no effort and not know it.....the 135 has got to be monster.
P.S. nanny control does work well in the rain.....

Dynamic Stability Control.
...it was that thing that kept me from putting the front end into the rail on the on ramp.......I blame the rain and the right foot.....

The 128i is plenty powerful...and a blast to drive. Will the 135i be nicer/faster? Yes. But the 128i is much more than adequate - very sporty.
Will be driving mine for the second time in about fifteen minutes... |

i drove a v6 accord coupe and 128i back to back this morning...and here's what i think :
the v6 accord is nice, but doesn't feel like 269 hp. inside it is roomy as hell. Suspension felt disconnected with road, i guess an attempt from honda to make it an everyday road warrior. My biggest dissapointement was the power band....269hp..REALLY? felt a lot more like 240 now to the 128. I was the first person to test drive the one they had on the lot...a beautiful Sedona Red with black leather and premium package. It sounds typically BMW...and feels much like a 328i sedan with a short rear. Roads are a bit wet so I didn't get the full effect, but suspension is tight, seats are nice (even without sport package), and overall fit and finish is great. My girlfriend doesn't really like the styling...she thinks the Accord is more aggressive, which I guess is true. I know theyre two different beasts, but for the price conscious shopper looking between these two relative competitors (Honda at $27,500, BMW at $29~) it is a close call . I still love the BMW no matter what. Maybe I like the "Brand recognition". Whatever, Im a marketing graduate and the branding of BMW has terrificly worked on me:thumbup: I still have until July to pull the trigger. We'll see if I remain a 1 addict or not I will say this much : I was obsessed with the v6 accord when it awas being showcased as a concept...but now it seems lackluster. I dont know what has happened to my obsession...but I don't feel the same way i do when I sat in that 128 |

I drove a 128 last night and I was impressed. I just turned in my C230 Kompressor lease and figured the 128 would be much like drive that however I was very wrong. It was a lot "meater" then I thought it was going to be. Handles very well although I didn't think there would be any question there. My only problem is when you are taking an on ramp (thats curvy) fast the car leans to one side noticeable, the SA with me said the 135 doesn't have the lean the 128 has.
I have a 135 coming in next week and they didn't have one I could drive so I took the 128 out and again I was very impressed if I had known the 128 was going to be that fun I might have considered getting it, but I think I'll be happy with the 135. |

A friend of mine had an manual E46 330Ci -- the 3.0 is a fantastic engine. Broad torque band with lots of oomph. On a twisty road w/ similar drivers, I betcha the 128 can hang with the 135i...

I'm assuming the 128i you drove did not have sport package. A 1addicts member that did a full test of both cars confirmed that the suspensions are the same between 135i and 128i with sport package.

This is an interesting read: http://www.motivemag.com/pub/feature/versus/Motive_Versus_2008_BMW_128i_versus_Volkswagen_R32. shtml
Down Under (Australia), the 128i will be badged 125i, and I've put my order in for one. FYI, the price I'm paying is AU$72,000 , the equivalent of around US$65,000. You can only imagine how frustrating it is to live in a country where cars are so expensive due to the size of the market compared to the USA or Europe. |
