We bought 'Tires For Life' for my wife's X3 when we got it last October, because she isn't an enthusiast and she will be happy with the original equipment tire. I didn't want it because I figured I would be bailing on the run-flats (and I am.)
As it turns out, the company went into bankruptcy about 2 weeks ago. We don't know what is going to happen, but the dealer can't just let this sit - they sold it to us, and they have to stand behind it. Good luck with your decision. Have Fun, Rick

My dealer offered GE Elite wheel warranty. I normally never get one for any of my cars...it's never usually worth it. But with such a low profile tire, and the cost of the Run Flats and rims... I decided to get it. I think it was about $650, but not sure. 2 tires, or 1 rim will make up the cost. I already had one blowout.

No!
I do not think the tire warranty is worth it to me. For one I get aftermarket wheels and tires plus where I live the roads are in good shape and do not have to worry about potholes. The RFT tires suck so consider that before you make the call and are locked into the stock tires. If I were you I would go by your past history with damage to tires/wheels. If you tend to have damage to them get the insurance.

We got tire/wheel insurance through Paragon Motor Club for my wife's 328xi. They paid for a new tire that the dealer would not repair, so it was worthwhile. A few weeks after the automatic renewal they stopped covering BMWs and canceled the policy. No answer about refunding the premium yet.

If you compare the warranty rates to the dealership prices it's a steal. However a few phone calls to a local wheel/tire shop will net you huge savings. I've seen outlandish prices charged by dealers for tire replacement. Something on the order of 3x's the amount a local tire shop would do it for.
The service advisors will often tell you that you must run a BMW specified tire that just so happens to be an odd size that only dealerships carry. But it's all hogwash and scare tactics. The only case where this actually holds water is with the new GTR. That's a whole other can of rape. |
