sidewall blowouts can't run flat

Runflats are great if you have a normal flat. If you have a sidewall blowout from a pothole it doesn't "Run Flat". Kind of sucks, because of course there is no spare. I like runflats but this sucks.

With a thickened sidewall, I dont think youll have a blowout. Not unless your doing donuts and run into the curb, but at that point, I say you deserve it...

Are you sure?

I saw on motorweek were they drilled a one inch hole in the side wall and it was able to be driven.

I saw a Fifth Gear episode where they drilled holes in the run-flat sidewalls and Tiff (if I remember correctly) did about 10 laps on the track. It handled okay - just some slight vibrations.

I hit a pot hole on my way to my girlfriends house. It was more like a crater. It looks like the lip of the rim ripped my sidewall. I hit the hole at about 50mph. Trust me the sidewall is gone. I don't care what kind of a tire you have it won't survive hittin a freakin crater at 50mph.

So did you damage the wheel as well as blow out the tire. Because as everyone else has said, with a hole in the sidewall you still should be able to drive under 50mph and carefully. But if you damaged the rim also, then that could be the source of not being able to drive on it.

Yeah, runflats suck because when aliens come down and melt your tires with a ray gun, you're SOL....
