(Aussies) Thoughts on M's Tri Stripes on a Non-M car?

Ladies and Gentleman,

Im asking what the consensus in the atmosphere on whether a non M car (in our case, non 1M's) could, would, or should be allowed to wear the 3 stripes?

Why I ask, I'd love to put them on my 135i skirting the bottom of my car under the doors. However, I dont want to be dissed on, pointed at and hear about it, see it, talking about etc. etc. etc.

along the lines of this:

I am in both camps, one side says 'do whatever makes you happy, it's your car etc. etc. etc.' and I also see it as 'dressing up mutton as lamb' or breaking holy rules and protocols....

and that's why I have put to the floor for discussion...

I believe they are M stripes as in Msport, not the same as a 1M badge. I see the BMW Motorsport colors added in small details on cars here all the time. Do what ya like...

Not a fan really. More a fan of subtlety, the stripes can look nice when pulled off well!

Ultimately it's your car. You've got to drive it and look at it all the time, so do whatever makes you enjoy the car more.

One exception, I consider M badges on non M cars to be a mortal sin. Hahaha.

As most guys have said do whatever makes you happy, although yeh it is nice asking the beemer community for their views.

I have noticed bmw themselves have started putting m badges and stripes on their new models that are technically non m cars, so I guess what you propose is not totally out of this universe haha, but just need to be careful with the size and design you choose.

Pics of new f series 435i but have also noticed similar on new m235i and m135i

Thank you all for your responses.

The pic I included is not exactly what I had in mind, but was as close as I could find. I actually want the stripes on the lowest part of the car, probably the fender/skirt piece under the door. I have another idea bouncing around my head now that's more subtle as well.. a matte/gloss black approach.

I dont want 'loud', but i do want 'individual'.

I had them on mine till some bitch keyed the car. I liked them but the bits behind the wheels are not necessary. Now I have the stripes on the door belt line about 2cm wide. Really looks good imo. Incidentally, I had them made at a graphics shop. Much cheaper than BMW genuine.

I agree with doing what makes you happy. It's your car!

I've got an 'M' badge on my boot and constantly get forum posters telling me to remove it. Too bad fellas. I think they're all ignorant to the fact that the 135i has 'M performance' badges all over the place. Perhaps they should scratch off the 'M' badge on their steering wheel and door sills.

Yeah stuff them. I think it's more got to do with the confusion between similarity which is what gets people.

As far as I see it, ///M denotes trim and other upgrades whereas ///Mx denotes complete M division cars. But then there's exceptions like the 1M which only gets an ///M badge, probably due to the ///M1 already existing - so thus confusion.

Same thing happens in the Audi camp with the S and RS badges, although the differentiation is a little clearer.

At the end of the day, you're not doing anything wrong. Your car, your decision.

I've got a small ///M Performance sticker on my side skirts. Subtle yet impactful

Even BMW marketing has gone too far, there's 16 ///M badges on the M 235i. It's not an M, so you are going to cop abuse for it. That's guaranteed. Whether or not you care, or go ahead and do it anyway is up to you!
I see a lot of asian students with stickers and stripes all over their cars. Looks incredibly cheap and tacky to me, but it seems to be common with them, so some like it I guess.
